Hi CI... (dashing photo of you there in that avatar). Your mentioning the bamboo reminded me... ^JB^... what are those tied-up branches leaning against the wall in the last photo? What would they be used for, do you know? Thanks. P

JB, Thank you for the photo tour of your home town. Look forward to seeing more. I think I speak for most people who have looked at your pictures, a picture of you and your family would be nice too!

I really like your picture of the bamboo grove. I have bamboo in my back yard, but it's in a container so it won't take over my whole back yard.

oh, poor CI, You can feed pandas in your backyard anymore!

Very Happy
Bamboos is a great part of our culture. It reflects the vigorosity and the tenacity, in my opnion.

Most probably, for cooking. In rural area using firewood is very common rather than natural gas which is introduced more and more gradually.

It also makes a bad part of my memory spring out. In the past, branches are widely used and punishment tools for kids...

Today I will post my four last photos.

First two are about a ruin. My grandpa disapproved if I posted it. But can't he capture the very aesthetic feeling of them?

The upper one, which is with verdant background and my grandparents in it, was taken in last summer.
This Spring festival, my grandpa bought the small house (which you can see at the left side of the upper image). He halved the house : One part is for a "modern" lavatory with closestool rather than cesspit; And another one is for a self-designed greenhouse. (Interestingly he even divided the lavatory into to parts, one closestool for each, one for men and another one for women Very Happy )

This is China, these are Chinese people. No matter how uneasy their lives are, no matter how many calamities they have suffered, no matter how weak how poor and how uncivilized they once were even they now are, no matter how large the "gaps" are, no matter how heavy the internally political pressure is, Chinese people, like any other nation in this world, like the two perky elders in the upper photo, are looking forward, to better, richer, and happier lives.

I do hope this "Vision China: A Small Town" thread can still stay in the featured column----let more people and more newcomers share it, share the images of China.

This is the end.

JB, grateful for your joining Smile

JB, Thank you very much for sharing your home town and family with us. I very much enjoyed the journey through your narrative and pictures.

I read recently that China is now the second country behind the US in internet access. I sincerely hope this kind of communication between the citizens of all countries will one day bring peace to all.

I can not see your pics

My grandparents' (well, more specifically my father's parents' Very Happy ) home is located in this town.

It is a very small town, so small that I even can take the picture of the entire town by just one shot.
The town is quite close to the coast, no more than 50 kilometers away (how many miles? sorry Embarrassed ).
I believe this town was built no later than 200 years ago. To find out why, just to see my following photos

I have been there for two times in half a year---- first in last summer and next was during the spring festival.
So sometimes I will intend to show some contrast between different seasons just at a same spot

I will post 1-2 photos everyday.
OK, All aboard please, lets move!!
