A typical Chinese town must have a dog, one dog for one home nearly----Dogs are widely used as "garrisons" in rural areas of China (and in cities people raise them for fun or for making friends).

"Rural" dogs are often innutrient. They often roam the garbage.

I took the job to feed bones and meet to a neighbor's dog.
And took a number of photos, vivid.

Do you know that today, on Easter, we give rabbits special dispensation? The dead rabbit is more shocking because of your timing.

Sorry Embarrassed I didn't realize that.

Very Happy No apology needed, JB. I didn't think you did realize it but I thought you might be interested. It is strange and interesting how cultures can bump up against each other in funny ways. (Why would a rabbit seem significant...)

Thanks for the new photos. That dog - so SKINNY!!! He seems afraid but trying to be friendly. Is that right? I expected a dog with a BLACK tongue.

Yes exactly. Very Happy

She has gave birth to a dozen cubs, but unfortunately most of them were given to others as gifts.

She must have felt agonized. Confused

I imagine you are right--animals have a strong attachment to their babies. She must have been bereft. So sad. I hope that she was allowed to keep at least one of her puppies. Most times in the USA, they don't though.

We have two dogs that came from the same litter. Though it sometimes feels like we live in the monkey house Very Happy, it has been an absolute joy to see their affection & connection to each other -- it has been there since they were two frightened puppies coming to live with us. They depend on each other. These canine emotions are genuine -- animals can't lie. I think it is a good object lesson for us humans to recognize those feelings and respect them as much as possible.

Interesting to me that you say many people in China have pets. Could you tell us more?

I can imagine how will it be when your two dogs live with each other. Very Happy...so moving Smile

Yes, pets, many many urban people have "pets".
But Unfortunately most people regards their pets as their slaves, although they couldn't do some work, they could provide some happiness and the little sense of ruling .
I don't think that is ideal. If you want your pets to obey your orders, you have to respect them first. That will be a harmonious relation between human beings and animals, even the nature

Is that your pet, JB? A cutie!

Respect is an important thing. My dogs obey me because they trust me -- though sometimes it takes a bit of encouragement. (Come here. Come. Come here right now. C'mon, hurry-up!!!) One of them is much more obedient... the other is always the last to come through the door.

Some people in this country "throw away" their pet. The pet grows up or gets annoying, so they get rid of it. Even sadder, they move and the animal is no longer convenient, so they just leave the animal behind. Now, many pet people and pet rescue places talk about "forever homes" -- they promise themselves that they will take care of their pet as long as they live.

My dogs are like my own hairy retarded children. They react at an eighteen month old child's level so it can be hard to "explain" things to them Very Happy but they are still very loving. I tried to post a photo of them for you. Rolling Eyes Didn't work.

Regarding dogs in China...I heard on a radio advertisement about an western woman (PhD quali) is trying to promote understanding about the slaughter of cats and dogs in china for their fur...could anyone elaborate on this? I love dogs but I love China and I don't want to come up with a opinion without seeing both sides, if any.

JB - is it ok if I copied some of your photos of china? My dad would love to see them - he was raised in the mainland and misses it so much. I won't use them for any other purposes.

Slaugter dogs and cats for fur...
I didn't quite hear about it. Because I really don't understand that why someone wants to get fur from cats and dogs

Maybe it exists. If it exists, it mustn't be a problem which can be solved by a western woman.
Since the Reform began China has grown to a society in which (nearly) everyone craved for money for fortune.
They won't miss any opportunity to catch the cash.

The meat of dogs are really popular especially in Winter. (dogs meat can make people warmer) I admit that I have had a taste of it before Embarrassed
But not only China, the meat of dogs are also popular in Korea. And they most like to eat it in Summer. (In Summer human bodies' energy is more easy to run away)
So, that is about culture. Not a issue a "western woman" could deal with Smile

I agree with both your comments (gosh, I agree with everything you say! I feel like such a copy cat, or an idiot, like I can't think of any comments of my own! Embarrassed Embarrassed )

Especially regarding the culture. Its multiculteral Australia here, but westerns still don't understand some of our traditions (Chinese new year - can you believe some of them think its a religion???? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes ) It is definitely not something westerns could solve effectively, despite their good intentions.

Well, here are several views of my dogs, JB. Hope you like them.

Me holding them still for their picture:

I'd prefer that people NOT eat any dogs, but especially not my dogs even though they are Chow Chows. Here they are as adorable puppies...

Poppy -- (Poppy Seed) -- so black all you can see is the shine of her eyes & nose.

Penny -- (Copper Penny) -- always in trouble. Very Happy

Mostly grown up but still good friends...

Thanks... it was a good day and Mr.Piffka is pretty good with a camera.

I see that they are now boxes with little red "x's" -- I hope they come back. It was lots of trouble (for me) to figure out to get them here. I am such a technology klutz.
