It appears the spider could still be alive but for the act of that wasp. Makes me wonder for how much longer.

Blame the hijacker.
It's great that a spider lived well - Be great if all things did.
But painting an anthropomorphicised biography is showmanship.
I get that 'Spider lives a long time' isn't going to grab the eye - But - This story is more adjectified than the birth of jesus.
