Hey, this is my first post so hopefully all goes well, I looked at that test forum but desided to be risky and skip it. I am having trouble with the dreaded search2web. I just removed it with the lop remover that a user named 'dan77' had pasted on a diff forum. and it seems to be hes the one replying to most ppls post. now I have never used HJT before so i know i have to do some install first in a dedicated folder then ill post the scan up here. problem seems to be that on everyone's computer a different file gets used, but it looks like its always in 02 and 04 or something like that. maybe someone *coughs* dan77 *coughs* could help me with this

OK, so I double check the update on my ad programs and re ran after I did the lop uninstall and then I restart to get a fresh start up. I ran HJT and here is the report it gave me.

it seems like the program is gone but I suspect as with everyone else there is something in here I have to remove. Please correct me if I am wrong but after finding out what I have to get rid of, I just do a safe-mode boot and then launch HJT and get rid of them? possible yfollowed by a silentrunner scan or soemthing?

Hi printer and welcome to A2K
You learn well !!!
Lets make sure we get rid of all of this,
Please restart HJT put a check next to the following, close all open windows and click "Fix Checked"
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Audio Noun] C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\APPLIC~1\OPENDO~1\Info Platform First.exe

Next reboot to safe mode ( By tapping the F8 key on start up) Make sure you can view all Hidden Files/Folders search for and delete the above files highlighted in BOLD

C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\APPLIC~1\OPENDO~1\Info Platform First.exe <-- Delete any associated folder found with this file.

Restart your computer, Post back a fresh log please
Also,
Please Download
Silent Runners
Please create a folder for it please, Then double click on the program, It will save a notebook file in the same folder, Open that, copy, paste the log back to this thread please

I see a few Anti Virus programs running in your start ups not a good idea as this will liklry cause you some conflicts,,

Big thanks Don, im not on my home computer right now, im on a linux box in one of my engineering comp labs (just to toot my own horn a bit, im a second year engineering systems and computering student pulling a 24h shift with 3 other friends to write driver software for an optical mouse *our assignemtn*) and I see that you respond to a lot of people who have problems with websearch2; as the forum seems to be over run by it and everytime those 02 and 04 files are named somethign differnt. how are you identifying them so succesfully.

PS the antivirus in the start up im not worried about, this machine isnt my computer its my housemates machine and some minor glitchs she will just ignore but search2 was causing weird and fantastical thingsto happen. my machine well i just have one serious system error where anytime i am running an ssh client I get random restarts w/o warming. itsl ike someone just flips a switch. ill probably post those files tomorow when i get home
