It Has Been Said
"One would be taken and the other left." Quite a poignant statement indeed.
I, along with you, have marveled at these wondrous words marked for a deed.
Along life's long lonely road, I've thought often upon this omen's fate,
And took in the populace of the world and their thoughts upon this future date.
I came to an open-ended conclusion that spread my soul across the universe.
If I may, I'd like to share with you, an un-thought thought in verse.
No trickery is involved, and no preaching of any sort here,
Just consideration on your part of the statement and what your mind would hear.
Let's just assume, for argument's sake, that the omen said is true,
And let's assume that faith or no, the omen does come true.
Now I'm sure you hope for rapture with all it's glory promised,
Even without faith, I'm sure your future hopes are gained and not dismissed.
You have your lives, your friends, relatives, and families too,
But this omen's statement pertains to the one and only you.
Each of them, without considering you, know also of the omen's fact,
And when it happens, you do know, of course, there will be no looking back.
So what is the conclusion in a minor statement such as was stated?
That with all your life's preparations you may have miscalculated.
What if in your miscalculation, they are snatched up to heaven's waiting portal?
And it is you that is left behind, because of your self-righteous chortle?
Think on it, "ONE will be taken": does that not give a singular clue?
I'm sure you hope in that the ONE will be, of course, the one and only you.
"The other" would be the one next to you, the one you may have loved so dear,
The other would be left behind, now what have you to fear?
Your miscalculation will leave them behind, is that what you wish for them?
I'm sure you don't but then you are starting to see, the omen's purer gem.
Think on this omen the next time you gaze upon your little nest:
For eternity is a long, long time, to carry this truth within your breast.
