Okay, I understand what cookies are in a basic sort of way, but I have a few questions about them.

1. Are they of any benefit for the computer owner?

2. Why do sites load so many cookies on for each entry?

3. Does dumping cookies at the end of a day's surfing help or hinder the performance of one's computer?

That's about it for now. Thanks in advance.

The benefits of cookies is that the site will "recognize" your computer, and it will save you time from having to log in each time that you go to a site.
