OS Installation?

Does anyone have a cheat sheet on how to install an operating system on a computer that has been reformatted? Does it have to be installed through MS-DOS? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

That website only allows install from a restore CD
which is put the CD in the drive and reboot.

For a windows 98 install you need the cd and a boot disk.(XP install below)
First make a bootdisk with any floppy in the control panel under add/remove programs the tab to the left side will create this disk automatically

second place a windows 98 CD in the drive and the bootdisk you made and reboot the computer
you will see a window that asks if you want cdrom support select that option.

3rd*Optional step type the command fdisk at the prompt to set a partition for the hard drive if one isn't allready set.the program will run you through an easy to understand process to set the drive up
exit the program when done thru the menu

4th once that is done you will be at the a:\ prompt again if you want to erase the c:\ drive you will need to format the drive simply type format c:
this will erase the hard drive it will ask for confirmation type the letter Y then hit the enter key
this will take a few minutes to erase the drive.

then back to the promt a:\
next you need to acess the cdrom drive
if you only have 1 hard drive the cdrom normally is the next drive or drive d:\
so at the prompt type d:\
this will bring you to the d prompt or d:\

last step:the location of the setup file is normally not in a folder on the cdrom but is in the front sector d:\setup.exe
it also is in the win98 folder or d:\win98\setup.exe
since you are allready at the d:\ prompt type
d:\setup if that doesn't work type win98\setup
this should start the install.
for winxp you will need to learn how to make a bootable cdrom to set up the system using nero buring rom software this is easily done.
Or go to http://www.bootdisk.com and make a bootdisk for xp and install like win98. Very Happy
