BUSH'S CHICKEN HAWKS: Terra Incognito
By BumbleBeeBoogie
Is there more Gothic ignorance
than that of dilettantes,
educated beyond their intelligence,
wise in their own conceit,
shallow, impudent Philistines
in their dominion of absurdity?
Declasse!
Blind with naked ignorance
deliberately perpetuated,
ignobles don't know beans
when the bag is open,
or know chalk from cheese.
Illiterate blanc-bees,
still steeped in the lore
and prejudice of the Dark Ages
to better serve their avaricious masters.
When
will the second Reformation arrive?

More clearly demonstrated every day.
Hello BBB
Although I tend to be drawn more to 'working class' (for want of a better word) poetry, I felt a real strength in this poem of yours. I didn't understand it completely, being a Brit an' all - but I got the message!
There's a sense of darkness that I like about it.

Why do you sense darkness in my poem?
BBB
I suppose that it says something about me and I'm not really sure how to break it down - it was what it conjured in my head. Anyway, I'll try:
Gothic/ Dark Ages > these words alone
-------------------------------------------------
educated beyond their intelligence,
wise in their own conceit,
shallow, impudent Philistines
Blind with naked ignorance
deliberately perpetuated,
ignobles
avaricious masters
>I've read a lot of WWI poetry and was reminded of Sassoon"s descriptions of the gentry at that time.
(A very dark time - the Dark Ages to those men)
----------------------------------------------------
Gothic ignorance
steeped in the lore
second Reformation
> historical - traditional - and Reformation makes me think of The Church
These would not neccesserily be 'dark' evoking words to some people, but together, they conjure up images of euopean Cathedrals - things written in stone - conservatism (to me).

Reformation > politics (dark right now)

Hope I've explained myself okay - sometimes it hard to know exactly why you feel a sense of something. But that 'sense' is in me - not sensed in you. With the help of a psycoanalysist I could probably find a lot more to say!
Hope that's what you wanted
Peace, Endy

Endy, thanks for your insightful response, which gives me a different perspective of my poem.
What I had in mind when I wrote it was to described Bush as I see him:
A rich kid dilettante son of a rich and famous father who protected and opened doors for him all of his life. He has always relied on his "good old boy" charm to hide his deficiencies. Despite all of this, he has personally failed at everything he has tried to do all of his life. Even his presidency had to be handed to him by the Supreme Court. Bush is a "dry drunk" with all of the personality and thinking processes associated with being a dry drunk.
"educated beyond their intelligence, wise in their own conceit, shallow, impudent Philistines Blind with naked ignorance deliberately perpetuated,
ignobles"
Bush received a MBA degree. All he understands is business corporation bean counting. He is not an educated man in the classical sense. His education is shallow and indicates tunnel vision in his interests.
Bush is the least properly prepared, least articulate, most incompetent but dangerous president to be inflicted on America.
I guess my poem does express darkness. Not of the past, but of Bush.
