This is a reasonable facsimile of my first car. And I can confirm it is possible on the back seat of a 1972 Buick Electra ... but then again I'm 6'4" and I could lay down full-length in that back seat.

Tico, you've just reminded me of something!

When I got rid of the Mini, I went and exchanged it for a Mini-van. Exactly like a mini at the front, but an enclosed van at the back. It was purchased with the vague intention of, well, how can I put this, ......being a <AHEM>....." passion wagon".

Soon after I bought the thing, a couple of my mates broke into it (you could open the doorlock quite easily with a screwdriver) several hours before a special date that I had arranged and, unbeknown to me, wrote on the inner roof of the van (at the back)..... "Say OOH and AAH a lot, it pleases him".

They then re-locked the door, and said nothing.

I was a perfect gentleman on the date, but about two weeks later I wondered why, at a particularly sensitive moment, a particular young lady suddenly burst out laughing.

B*stards!

Haha! That's cute!

Oh, that reminds me of my gynecologist's office. When you start
spreading your legs and laying down, there is a huge sign at
the ceiling that reads: "I hate this!!"

Here's a google image of what my first car was....an AMC Hornet.

What a friggin death trap that car was. It was already old when I bought it and of course I drove it like a maniac.

http://www.nationalshowcars.com/am/listings/images/62_3.jpg

I really guffawed when I saw that plate in the front that said SST, the model number or something I guess.

My friend used to say it stood for Super Sonic Turd.

That car was such a hoot....on the air conditioner, when you were going to turn it up high, the dial read....Low....Medium....Desert Only.

DESERT ONLY! Laughing

We'd all be haulin' arround, drunk and someone would start in..."Don't turn that dial up! It's only for the desert!

The play in the steering wheel....oh my God, it was like turning the wheel on the Titanic.

That car actually took me out of state to college, a thousand miles away....the very first xmas I came back, I pulled up in front of the house, and suddenly all these black smoke started coming from under the hood.

"Ah....screw it, it's such a piece of sh!t"

now I'm all nostalgic....

ahhh meeee....

Oh, Ellpus, a Mini <heartbeat speeds up>, dual Webbers <pant, pant>, and Lucas "Prince of Darkness" electrics, no doubt <thud, thud, thud, thud>

Mine was a faded gray '62 Bug, which over the course of three years grew faded red front fenders, a skyblue front trunk lid, a different-shade-of-blue engine lid, and a black license plate light housing on the engine lid. I kept a windshield ice scraper inside, to scrape off the ice that formed on the inside of the windshield, because of course there were no heater boxes or defrost. 68mph top speed, with your foot flat on the floor and a long straightaway.

My first car. I tried doing Betty Perkins after school one day in the back seat but there was no back seat and we both ended up naked on the gravel road. I had to run several blocks to catch up to the car and retrieve our clothes.

This model was my very first car when I was stationed at Walker AFB in New Mexico. It was old when I bought it, and broke down all the time, but I worked on it myself, because I couldn't afford a mechanic. It was easy to work on, because the electronics were simple, and not many parts to the engine. Even changed the thermostat on it once. Drove all around New Mexico on it; it was my pride and joy. Mine was a neutral color, I think it was a dark green.

Well, the other day I made the promise that I would never post a personal family pic in this thread.

24 or so hours later, something rather interesting and unexpected has happened on the TV, which has made me change my mind....

Those of you who saw my pics the other day, will recognise who this is. "Plain Jane", I believe she was called by someone I would prefer to ignore in future.
I have been waiting all morning to get permission to do this, and have finally got the go ahead....

Plain Jane?......Well, how "Plain" is this? I ask.......

See here for full story...

Why maybe?

"The French football official Jules Rimet commissioned the trophy from the French sculptor Abel Lafleur for the first World Cup in 1930. It was a magnificent piece: a solid gold 15in statuette of Nike, then still known as the Greek goddess of victory".
