Great photos, lil'k! Really good eye.

Hey Reyn, Hubby says he's getting me a new digital camera for Christmas! I just have to decide on a model. Remind me again...what is the difference between optical and digital zoom?

Satt - how often does one see fully kimono'd women walking the streets of Japan's major cities?

I must admit it is very rare to see "fully kimono'd women" on the streets in recent Japan. Sad
I was very lucky to be able to take that photo of two woman in the royal pallace of Kyoto.

And Yuki has grown! Joa, she's just a happy-go-lucky-dog and so cute. What happened to the other dogs, the little ones?

That reminds me........does anyone know how Joa herself is doing? It must be very close to her due date.

CalamityJane, it's so hard to get pics of the little one since most people are only interested the big dog (including Mr. Joahaeyo) Wink The little one is very good/behaved, so she's always doing nothing. However, Yuki is a beast who is always doing picture-worthy things. What's up with the mean lady avatar? Laughing

wandeljw, today I go to the doctors. This sat will be 35wks. My pelvic area is SO SORE!!! I can barely get up if I've been sitting down for any length of time. Feels like someone just punched me in the ...... Outside of that, I'm just waiting around. Waiting ever so impatiently. Razz

Satt - I hadn't even noticed the typo. I had to go word for word with your corrected sentence to see the mistake.

Kimonos are so beautiful and so regal. It's too bad they're phasing out.

Thanks all!

Reyn, I took the photos all on the same camera (my dad's) and on the same day. I don't think I did anything that would have changed the resolution there. I then downloaded them all en masse and edited them the same way. Or didn't I? I guess I must have done something weird.

Hmm, that's inded odd then. Perhaps something happened when you were posting at MSN?

I really have no logical explanation.

Reyn, thanks for that tip - I'll be getting a digital camera soon.

Hey, that's great! Any idea what kind of camera you're looking for? There's a number of good sites where you can read the reviews done on various cameras. I highly recommend becoming somewhat knowledgeable on different models before you go into the stores. That way, you won't get sold something that's not suitable for your needs.

Not to presume anything, but if you've got a clear vision what you'll all want to accomplish with your camera and how much you're willing to pay, this will be a big help in the buying process.

When I bought my camera, I had already made up my mind after reading the details in the reviews and merely followed through at the store.

To get back to my tip, mostly I shoot pictures not to be printed, but to review them on my computer or show on the web. So, right away I know the resolution should be 640 x 480 and use the "normal" setting (as opposed to fine or superfine). That way, my photos will look better here and I can get so many more on the memory card.

Hey, another person! Check my post HERE to K. I think you'll feel much more in control if you go through some of the reviews. Again, price plays a big determiner when buying a digital camera.

Okay, an optical zoom is a physical feature of a camera lens that brings you closer or further away from your subject matter.

While a digital zoom is a software-related feature that can increase or decrease the amount of pixels within your photo. If possible, it's best not to use this too much, as it can affect the quality of your picture greatly.

When buying a camera (IMO) the optical zoom is what really counts. If a camera has image stablization along with a good zoom, so much the better.

Do some Googling for the reviews. Those sites are easy to find.

On that point let's decide what you want to do with the camera = the general public does not need more than 5 or 6 megapixels and the other factor is optics - me personally I never use digital zoom I think it distorts the pictures quality. Other main consideration is if you just want a point and shoot or a DSLR The Canon Digital Rebel is a nicer camera spendy at the higher megapixel a less at the lower.
