Granite, she bought a few normal sized pieces {12x12} of the same granite to use on her backsplash....I ripped them up into little squares and such.

I really like the way the tumblestone reflects in the granite countertop.

Morel's are considered to be a delicacy. They are very hard to grow in captivity (they only figured out how to do it a few years ago), so they are also very valuable.

I would love to try them cooked sometime.

Well, when we go mushroom "hunting", we do it a bit differently than most... Laughing

There's always a box of ammo on that table. If there wasn't, then I'd be concerned.... the morels had just been washed and soaked in salt water to get any bugs/slugs out. Once "dry" we coat the morels in egg and cracker crumbs and fry them in butter. In this case we piled the fried morels on top of a nice steak.

I don't eat verpa, I even toss half frees though they are edible...

It's easy to tell the difference. True morels always attach to the stem at the base of the cap, any that don't - just don't mess with.

Morels come in lots of colors, black, white, yellow, even grey. The yellows are the easist to find.

Here's a good description of how to identify. I recently had dinner with the website owner:

"When I first started morel hunting I tried one small bite of a Half Free morel (at least it looked like them??) It wasn't. It was a Verpa that looks like the Half Free.

Yes, I am a slow learner."

You ate with the person who wrote the above? Did he feed you morel Laughing

Yes he did. Morel soup.

He learned a hard lesson - always go with someone who knows what they are doing, at least the first time.

I've been hunting morels for 40 years. I even found some in my yard in California. Couldn't believe it, but there they were. Mid-March, as opposed to mid-May here in MI.

Some of the people who showed up for dinner reported their finds in dozens of pounds - I found at most 1.5 lbs all year.

Many people guard the location of their morel hunting spots as if it were a national secret.
