I was browsing through some pictures in Slate of
mothers when I saw this one:

I remembered that I first saw that photograph about 1967 in a book called
the Family of Man . I just fell in love with the joy of it.
But I also remembered another photo of a mother and her children that was in that book, but was not amongst the photos in the Slate series. For some reason it has always stuck in my mind. So I went looking for it. Here it is:
