Set walked past the computer and said "you're the one with the grin"

I can't deny it. It's hamburger's grin.

We've been to our nice's (Mrs. Walter's godchild) confirmation today:

They didn't want that photos and films were taken at the service.

So I photographed before ...

I was browsing through some pictures in Slate of mothers when I saw this one:

http://todayspictures.slate.com/20070511/images/PAR42332.jpg
I remembered that I first saw that photograph about 1967 in a book called the Family of Man . I just fell in love with the joy of it.

But I also remembered another photo of a mother and her children that was in that book, but was not amongst the photos in the Slate series. For some reason it has always stuck in my mind. So I went looking for it. Here it is:

Consuelo Kanaga (United States, 1894-1978)
She is a Tree of Life to Them, 1950
Gelatin-silver print
12 3/4 x 9 1/4 in. (32.36 x 23.5 cm)
M.2006.93

Happy Mother's Day to all the Trees of Life.

R.I.P. Mom, you were a great sugar maple, full of color and sustenance to so many.

Very nice pictures, Walter. Yes, nowadays the cosmetic industry has
a tight grip on the younger girls. So far, my 11 year old is only allowed
to wear lip gloss, but I don't know how long I can hold her off.

We're going next week to my godchild's bar mitzvah. I shall post
pictures of the synagoge then....

For now, I have one from Solvang, a little Danish town in the midst of
California.

Very expressive pictures, Joe, and so appropriate for today.
Luckily, I still have my mother around, and luckily I am a mother to
be around.

This is our dessert for today. Freshly picked from the fields:
juicy, sweet tasting strawberries!

My wife and I went to Coco's today for breakfast, and they had a menu full of strawberry breakfast items, plus a desert menu with strawberries. I've been eating strawberries this past week, because they are huge and tasty! It's a great season - this.

mother and daughter team have just cooked up a "beach-breakfast" with all the trimmings !
probably early '70's when we would spent a full day at the beach almost every summer weekend - from breakfast to dinner - and come home dead-tired but VERY HAPPY !

aren't Eva's slippers the best! she always dresses to sit outside. Setanta's a big favourite of these two ladies.

you are right , c.i., NO PEANUTBUTTER - real butter instead and home-made strawberry jam Very Happy !
on the way to the beach we would usually stop at a german bakery (KONDITOR c.j.) who made wonderful german style bread and all the things one would expect in a KONDITOREI .
we often took an extra icebox along to buy bread , cakes and pastries for german friends that were eagerly awaiting our return .
unfortunately the baker retired a few years ago Crying or Very sad and i still miss his VANILLE-SCHNITTEN and APFEL IM SCHLAFROCK in the fall !
we now have quite a good bakery in town making both european style breads and pastries . particularly on weekends the place is packed with shoppers and people enjoying some strong coffee and cakes in the smallrestaurant or summer-garden - we'll have to go again soon Very Happy .

Yeah, Micki and Eva remind me of an old German neighborhood,
where the Mamas sat outside and talked and talked. They did know
EVERYTHING!!

That's why I loved the doormen in our Manhattan apartment so much,
they were similar: full of gossip and always available for a chat.
