John Oliver, the political satirist from HBO's Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (2014) has published a genuine, sincere and kind-hearted children's book to counter Vice President's children's book based on the family rabbit.

@tsarstepan,
I personally am a big fan of John, and I listen to all specials (all I can find on Youtube). However, this one somewhat irks me. While I understand the premise under which he decided to make this book, and I agree with the message behind it, I find it rather poor taste to use the 'original' book, as made by the daughter of Mike Pence(as far as I understand it): what does she have to do with this debate? Furthermore, by bringing this book out in this manner, he seems to take a stand against it: that's certainly how many of his fans interpreted it. Amazon apparently had to remove a lot of poor reviews of this book, many of which referred to this book as the 'better' alternative.

@najmelliw,
I hope Amazon had a good reason for removing negative reviews.

The reason given was that one of the venues for her book signing was Focus on Family, the organisation that campaigns for gay 'cures.'

You probably can't blanket a product with negative reviews if you aren't a verified buyer of said product.

@tsarstepan,
Review storming (of either positive or negative) seems to trigger Amazon to investigate. I'm not sure how much of that is done by machine or by bot.

They may be checking IPs as well, and bouncing more than maybe 2 or 3 reviews from the same IP, seeing as housemates could conceivably both be reviewing, but a thousand people on the same IP is suspect even if they are all in the same building for either work or to live there.

True, but I still fail to see why her using a venue that her father has been/is prominent in, has anything to do with her book, it's target audience or the message within. It's not her fault she was born as Pence's daughter: and if he had had close ties with Walmart, she would conceivably be using those outlets as well?

But heck, I'm a nitpicker I suppose. As said before, I agree with the message within John's book, and it makes for a great statement against the current political climate in regards to the LGBT community.

Well sure, but I’m going to read the book once and give it to my niece.

If I made this a question thread? I would have awarded this the red ribbon for best answer. Very Happy
