That's incredibe! This is worse than the private prison institutions who collect billions from the government to house violators.

Heads up everyone!

Here is the link to RIP Medical Debt, where John Oliver donated that 15 million debt he bought for $60000.

Through July 4, 2016 you can make a donation for them to reach their goal of $74,500 to pay off 17.76 MILLION in medical debt.

I did the math, and every dollar donated will pay off about $67!

Thanks for the video boomer,

With just a small donation, many families can be freed of the burden.

I'll be sharing this on Facebook later, and making a donation myself.

Just an FYI

There are 132,000 people in the U.S. worth more than $25 million.

If each of them debt for a penny on the dollar, they could pay off all of the 436 billion of medical debt for a little over $33,000 each.

That's like someone who makes $60K a year donating $79. Just a tiny fraction of a persons income.

@chai2,
I don't think it's quite that simple or inexpensive. I imagine the debt needs to be resold several times before it reaches the kind of price Oliver was able to buy it at.

Still, I like to see the tables turned on these predatory companies and I'm glad to see some attention being paid to this issue in a way that most people can relate to.

Here's hoping that Oprah decides she won't be out-queened and makes a big donation!

This really looks like something Warren Buffet would get behind.

@chai2,
Also, I think it's good to look at the very pointed comments at that link. There are a few pretty serious questions they need to answer....
