How do the characters change throughout the story? Ralph, Jack, and Simon are all important characters and I can see them changing throughout the book. Ralph starts out as a leader but how does he change? In the beginning, Jack helps everyone so they can be rescued from the island but starts to change once he becomes obsessed with killing pigs. This creates tension between him and Ralph because they could have been rescued if he didn't let the fire out to go kill a pig. I'm wondering what changes because of this tension? I'm also confused about Simon's personality and what side he is on because he just seems to wander off on his own. So how does he change?
@EmmaKate01,
Simon goes from being a nonchalant, easygoing boy to being a serious, thinking person, and christ- like character. He represents all of the boys' conscience as well as their connection to civilization. Ex: Simon is attacked by the boys thinking he is the beast, when really its them who are.
@EmmaKate01,
Ralph is threatened by jack when ralph becomes the leader. This causes him to grow up fast. Jack wants to be in charge. He is very aggressive and savage. He's the one who tears the tribe apart later in the book.
@ANR,
Thank you! That was really helpful : )
