Hello. I am an undergraduate Uni student living in Derby. At the moment I'm trying to research a psychological condition called synaesthesia. Those who have the conditoin may or may not be aware of it, it is simply cross-wiring in the sensory sections of the brain -in extreme cases, people are able to 'taste' words or see sound as colour.
I want to talk to and (using very basic perception and association tests) assess anyone who posesses syanaesthesia, particularly those who are involved with creative processes; specifically the process of creating poetry and prose.
If you are a writer and are particular about what colour thursday is, or if you see wild colours or experience extraordinary smells triggered by spoken words, please put in a word as you might be a synaesthete! If you are a writer and know that you have synaesthesia then I'd be much grateful if you'd take part in my little test.
Cheers, hope to hear from some of you soon!
Whenever my baby makes a farting sound, I smell poop.
Does smelling sounds count?
Cheers Cinne, I've got plenty questions so I hope you don't mind talkin' about yourself a load. Are you m/f? What particular kind of Syn do you have? How long have you known and how did you find out? Do you enjoy it, or is it ever a pain in the ass? That's really just a hint of the start; if it would suit you, I'd like to talk at considerable length. If you would prefer a less public discussion, please send me your e-mail add via instant message (i don't think I'm able yet, 'cause I'm new to the board).
Look forward to talkin seriously and I hope we can both somehow benefit from it.
J
Do you have a questionnaire?
I have little bunch of questions that are really designed to open up discussion about your exp of syn and your writing processes. They are very general questions so if you could elaborate as much as poss with your answers it should help to open things up a little.
Here are the questions:
1) What specific kind of syn do you have?
2) How long have you been aware of the condition?
3) How often are you conscious of your syn? All day everyday, or is it heightened on occassions?
4) How does it work for you practically -is the condition useful or distracting? Does it aid your thinking on certain issues or does it ever disorientate?
5) Do you find that syn works to supplement your original writing, or vice-versa?
I have some more but they are dependant on responses to these first few. I am most interested in how you write through/for or about syn so please just be as honest, open and detailed as you can.
Cheers.
