HPOTHB and HPOTHB07 files

I have had this problem on my pc with the file named HPOTHB, it seems that no matter how many times i have deleted it, it seems to come back. It renames picture files, usually seems to be "TIF" files. And it just kind of takes over. I have no idea what this is or how to get rid of it. When I search files and folders and it finds these files named HPOTHB or HPOTHB07, they seem to be data files. Any help out there for me? Question

I cant seem to find much information about his file, however it sounds like a virus of some sort. Download a free virus checker and give your system a scan.

Try AVG from http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php

I also have those files. I think they may have something to do with the "HP Photo & Imaging" program automatically installed when you install an HP inkjet printer.

I believe this is pointing you in the right direction, Assuming you have an HP Inkjet printer or scanner,
You could try:

Open up your scanner/imaging software and search teh drop down menus for configuration or options. Check under general, save, edit, file locations etc. until you have an idea of what the program is doing, and where it is doing it. Then make some changes and see what happens.

Or,
Go into options for HP Photo Centre and look for:

create temp files
create undo files
temp file locations.

turn them all off.

Make sure you make a note of any changes you make in the event the scanner or printer which ever you have is not working to your liking.

If all else fails read the manual Laughing Something that I never do

Never hurts to get a second opinion and you never know what it may find,

A couple other free online scans for you
Make sure they are set to clean automatically:

TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

You should try to delete any files that these scanners are unable to clean.

Let us know how you make out and what you find Smile
