Problems with a Slave Hard Drive - please help!

Reply Thu 3 Feb, 2005 04:51 pm
I just recently had to build a new computer, my old computer exploded but one of the hard drives didn't suffer any damage, I connected to another computer, this hard dive has the boot files also and worked with no problem at all, now, I'm trying to use it as a slave in the new computer using windows XP as well but the system keep asking me to format the hard dive. I have a lot of important work on that hard dive and I don't want to do that, I have try everything I can think of and nothing works, plus, I can't take it to a computer shop, because there is a lot of confidential information form my clients and the company!

Can anybody help me? What should I do to recover that information without having to take it to a shop?

Please help

Assuming this is an IDE drive, there is a jumper on the drive that will have to be moved so that the drive will operate as a slave. Refer to the documentation (documentation for most drives can be found on the Web). You may also have to move a jumper on the primary drive.

Alternately, boot with that drive as primary, then back it up.

Thank you DrewDad but if has always work as a slave, the problem is not with the configuration of the hard drive but with the system itself and last night just notice that my CD-RW and the Floppy disk are not responding either, so, I'll just have to take it apart and check everything.
