Brave Dave's big fat Freight hop 1.

I posted this earlier, before I had actually watched it, and I didn't know how good it really is. Brave Dave is from England and he came to Canada to freight hop all the way from the east coast to the West Coast of Canada. This is adventure at its best. He talks a lot in his videos and has close escapes from the bulls, the railroad police, who are really obsessed with getting freight hoppers off their trains and arresting them.

This video is in four parts and part number one will automatically go on to part number 2, 3, and 4 the last one. I highly recommend watching this as it's better than almost everything you'll see on television and a lot of movies.

Brave Dave is so famous and apparently notorious, because there is a warrant out for his arrest in Canada, and he was barred from another attempted entry into Canada.

@coluber2001,
"Feuriger Elias" (Fiery Elias) is an old colloquial term for steam locomotives or the railway line on which they ran here in Germany, and is usually found on smaller branch lines.

Even a tram (line) got that name, in Darmstadt. Here, during the summer months and during the Christmas period the "Fiery Elias" moves on the tram network of the city.

The two-axle Bn2t steam locomotive No. 7 was built in 1919 at Henschel & Sohn in Kassel for the Philipp Holzmann construction company with a track gauge of 900 mm, which was not unusual for industrial narrow-gauge railways at that time.
It was saved from scrapping and underwent a general overhaul. The locomotive was spun over to a track gauge of 1000 mm so that it can be operated on the Darmstadt tram network.

@Walter Hinteler,
Speaking about narrow-gauge railways:
at 140.4 km, the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways ("Harzer Schmalspurbahnen" or HSB) is Europe's longest contiguous route network with timetabled steam train transport, not only for tourists, but for goods and commuters as well.

They've got 25 (operating) steam locomotives, including the oldest operational Mallet locomotive from 1897.

The Brocken station is the highest station served by trains using only adhesion operation

@Walter Hinteler,
I can't remember how often I've been on the trains of this railway, the Borkum Island Railway. (I've visited the harbour during my navy several time, was stationed there as a reserve officer twice, made my sailing and motor boat "licences" there, was there on holidays ...[even day-trips])

A bit of info at first:
Quote:
Traditionally Borkum was accessed by water. Prior to 1850 the ferry only called at Borkum every fortnight. With the growth in tourism a weekly service was set up which alternately called at Greetsiel and Emden. In 1883 a jetty was constructed as part of the extension of the island train, which was completed in 1888.
Today there is a tidal-independent connection between Borkum and Emden and Eemshaven. The traffic to the mainland of Lower Saxony to Emden Außenhaven (outer harbour) which is linked to the European railway network and to the harbour of Eemshaven of Lower Saxony is serviced by car ferries and passenger express ferries. From Borkum you can also reach the neighbouring islands.
With the completion of the railway line Emden-Meppen in 1856 Borkum was integrated into the German railway network. This had an imminent effect on the growth of tourism.
By the end of the 19th century the extension of the island railway line and the harbour terminal began. The impulse for this was a threatening competitive disadvantage in view of the extension of the traffic infrastructure on Norderney. A horse tram was built in 1879 which was first used for the transport of building material for the new lighthouse and was rebuild as the island railway line. When Borkum became a sea fortress the narrow gauge railway was extended from a length of 8km to over 40km, in parts comprising two lines. During the Second World War, next to the “main line” the military constructed several light railway lines which linked the main settlement to the different parts of the fortress.

In the 1970s the importance of the island railway line grew in response to the growth in tourism, and in 1990 it became necessary to add new rolling stock. There is also an hourly bus service from the harbour which almost follows the route of the train. The bus service also links the eastern part of Ostland, which is not serviced by the railway line. Car traffic is restricted on the island.

@Walter Hinteler,
The following video was filmed in the GDR, in March 1983, without "special permission" (it was strictly forbidden to photograph and film e.g. railways).

It shows the important Karl-Marx-Stadt (Chemnitz)-Hilbersdorf freight yard, the largest marshalling yard of the Dresden railway division (Reichsbahndirektion Dresden) after Dresden-Friedrichstadt station.
