This poem doesn't come from personal anything! so no worries. i wrote this at a camp i was at- i wanted a poem in the "eyes" of the abuser.
Too Late
I just want to reach out and hold your hand-
But I respected you for taking a stand.
I didn't mean to be the one always in control-
To show you that I loved you was my one true goal.
If I could only go back into the past-
I would have tried to make this relationship last.
I really thought that you knew that I loved you-
I didn't know what my actions would make me do.
For all that I put you though; I know that it was hard to see-
But I truly loved you- to my heart you were my key.
I just didn't know how to show you how I felt-
You knew you couldn't stay- playing out the hand you were dealt.
I never meant to hurt you the way that I did-
To think that I killed you- and you were only a kid.
When you stood up for yourself that night-
I was filled with rage, and reason wasn't in my sight.
I never meant to hurt you- just didn't want to break our date-
I just want to hold your hand- but now it is too late.
Once again.....not my own experience. But i think its "fun" and trying to write of something you know nothing about. I think it expands your mind.
Also....it's "Fun" to look at the other side of the coin. To fully understand anything- we must know both stories.....then come to our own conclusion. For this poem...i wanted it to show that not all actions are what they seem...that people act in ways we dont understand. Sometimes they don't know how they are hurting us. That doesn't make it okay- because in this example of abuse...there is no excuse.....Also...i made the abuser's sex undefined....pointing out that abuse isn't from a man to a woman only.....it could go either way.
