"daddy's girl"...what do you think about this poem?

i wrote this for my father- who is also my BEST FRIEND. He's the best father in the world-

Daddy's Girl

It all started on a cold and snowy day-
Mom was in labor- and all you could do dad was pray.
I came into this world unknowing and scared-
You were the strong but gentle man that showed me you cared.

To me- things were different things were new-
I loved you from the start and somehow you knew.
I had big brown eyes and on my head not a curl-
I was truly destined to be a daddy's girl.

Chance made you family- but choice made you a friend.
When I thought I would break- you showed me I just needed to bend.
You helped me along- but let me take it at my own pace-
You drove away my tears- and put a smile on my face.

As I grew up- it was very easy to see-
That I was a "Tom Boy" by the scrapes on my knee.
I didn't want a beautiful doll with a necklace made of pearl-
I wanted to go fishing- I was a daddy's girl.

I'll keep the memories at heart- of the times that we shared-
I will forever remember the man who showed me he cared.
To stretch my wings- I must give my future a whirl-
But no matter where life takes me- I'll always be a daddy's girl.

I always wished I had been a "Daddy's girl" or a "Mummy's girl" ... so what is it like to have parents who love and protect you from the evils of the world?

Parents who are supportive and protective are awesome. Growing up you don't think so....because they don't let you do all those "cool" things, but later you really do se what a gift they are. I love my parents more and more each day. Esp. when i meet people who lack that special bond.

You are very lucky kendra; my father used me as a whipping post and my mother stood by and let him do it.
Still, the thing I always wanted most was for my father to love me. I approached him in '97 and told him that I loved him my wishes. He died later that year.
My mother prefers her sons to her daughters. I lived down the street from her and she has visited my brother more often than me and he lives in Australia.
All good though, I learned from my parents what not to do with my children! I love my children to death, both the two girls and the two boys and I tell them all the time that I love them.
So thanks mum and dad for teaching me how to be a parent Smile

your poem "Hands" hit very close to home for me, however this one blew me away.

I have two daughters of my own that are most certainly "daddy's girls".

A wonderful job!

Thanks for posting it.

Thank you for your response.....I know various people who have daughters who really enjoy my "daddy's girl" poem.....and others who have used my "Hands" and "daddy's girl" poems for their own fathers or grandfathers.

I'm glad it's gotten good reviews. I'm new at this whole writing thing....and only have a few poems. I do better at writing stories....but poems seem to mean more to me.

thank you
