I am trying to put a computer back together that was given to me. Its some type of Gateway (i think amd 600). the problem is that I formatted the hard drive and now all that pops up is the C: prompt. I can not get the recovery, OS, or my hard drive swipe cd to work on this thing. It had gateway goback and of course I did not disable before the format. You guys are much smarter than me. Thank you

When you format a hard disk, that's it, anything on the disk including the operating system and all data gets erased. The CIA might have ways to recover some of what was on the disk, but I wouldn't ask them to do it for me. I mean, I try to avoid those kinds of people...
Can anybody give me some advice on how to reinstall the OS? Just putting the disk in will NOT work and neither will the recovery disk.
