This poem is inspired by the beauty of Southwestern Alberta, Canada. If you haven't witnessed it first hand, I hope this poem motivates you to come and visit, or at least take in it's beauty from the many pictures on the web.....
My Homeland
There is one place on this great earth
That holds my heart like no other land
It is the very home of my birth
Sculpted and painted by God's own hand
The snow-capped majesty of its peaks
The clearness of the lakes and streams
The wind that howls, whispers and speaks
The visions, the memories, the dreams
Hillsides flowered in every brilliant hue
Grizzlies presiding over their domains
Eagles and hawks dot the sky so blue
While elk and deer graze on the plains
It's beauty is matched only by it's variety
From Red Rock Canyon to Cameron Falls
It leaves one's soul in peaceful sobriety
To stand back and quietly gaze at it all
No artist could envision such splendor
No songwriter put words to it's scene
One has to see it, feel it and live there
To get any insights into what I mean
It's "home" no matter where I do live
I go there whenever I'm feeling dark
To my heart, happiness and peace it gives
It's Waterton Lakes National Park
Very beautiful. Great poem. I have been to Alberta, Canada- and it is beautiful. What I love about your poem....is that - for the most part- it also applies to Montana....my home.
My fav. verse is:
No artist could envision such splendor
No songwriter put words to it's scene
One has to see it, feel it and live there
To get any insights into what I mean
....esp. the last two lines. This captures how I feel about Montana. I have tried to describe my land to others, but really, nothing can capture its true essence, the feeling you get when you are there- engorged by the beauty and splendor.
Thank you for sharing.
Please do check out my poems that i have posted (3 so far) and let me know what you think.
Montana is a beautiful state. We Albertans think of it as Southern Alberta lol.
Thanks for reading and responding.
