Hi Everybody!
Would you please help me to define a cliche and give an example of such?
thanks a lot!
A cliche is an overused saying - "It's as easy as pie."
http://www.clichesite.com/index.asp
To cut a long story short, at the end of the day, leave no stone unturned, wild horses would not drag it out of me, no pain no gain, no way José! come down like a ton of bricks, be afraid - be VERY afraid!
http://www.dictionary.com might prove helpful to you should you not happen to have one handy, to coin a phrase.
or just use some trite quote
At some point in time cliches were sharp, clear images. Through use and overuse they have become meaningless. You don't see the sharp image--you just hear the familiar words.
Also, language can move on and leave the cliches behind. How often have you seen bricks being unloaded or a blacksmith shaping his project while the iron is hot or someone carrying butter and eggs to market, all in one basket?
lol
lmao
imho
(acronym cliche's)
a cliche is a cliche even if it's current.
