Is it a blessing or a curse?

Seers


Some seek imperceivable light,
hoping to span shadows of the night.
Some seek to understand
Eyes of Nostradamus,
where vision mingles with man.
Some seek to pick the locks
pouring out Pandora's Box.
Some covet the coastline of second sight.
Others are haunted by beacons in the night.

Distorted reflections or distant train whistles
create projections of hollow images,
flickering at uncertain speeds,
superimposed across alternative realities.

You don't tell anyone;
fight sleepless nights alone;
feel like a circus freak.
You certainly don't prostitute
yourself out to the "psychic network."

You can't turn it on with a switch;
can't control who you see,
when,
what,
where.

You can't prevent what you've seen;
you can't stop what you see;
can't call it only a dream.

You can't ignore it;
you can't turn it off.

Lingering in translucent portals
in dimensions divided by dreams
you search to recognize landmarks
on the crossroads of comprehension,
kiss friends goodbye in airports
knowing you will never see them again,
and return to turbulent sleep
hoping, perchance, not to dream.
