Norton tells me on start-up that I need to update my anti-virus, but when I try (it usually goes automatically) it can't go through. Otherwise I have no problems with my internet connections and I don't think I've tinkered with security settings.
So, I downloaded updates manually from their site. Do I need to run them to make them take effect?
Any tips on how I can get back into being in Norton's good automatic update graces?
Once you have downloaded the files automatically you need to run the file to install the updates.
Im not sure what is causing your problem, however a few things to try might be:
- if you have a firewall try disabling it
- once you have manually installed the updates to a full system scan, you may well have a virus that is preventing norton from functioning properly..
- Check the settings within norton to make sure it knows how you connect to the internet.
Thats all I can think of, hope it helps!
Thanks nighthawk! Welcome to a2k. The firewall is the same one as before - it's been working fine. Maybe there was a new update there, though, that blocks Norton. I'll see if it'll work now that I've run the download.
@littlek,
You can download and run the updates manually with Norton Intelligent updater
to download Norton Intelligent updater go to
www.symantec.com/autoools and download 13th tool
Also Check weather the system having any proxy setting
you can check the proxy setting with
www.lagado.com/proxy-test
If you are having proxy setting update the Proxy setting in Network setting window and run Live update
Alex, thanks. My post was from over 5 years ago. But, I bet this will help some other user stopping by for help.
