Poor Olgs, how can you live in Australia and not know sport intimately.

The cricketer is Andrew Symonds, in the recent test in Sydney against the Indians Australia were in dire straits at 6 for something between 100 & 200 and Symonds was on 30 odd, he nicked a ball, but the umpire didn't pick it up so he got away with it (he went on to get 160 odd not out, shepherding Australia from a perilous 6/130 to around 470, saving his team's butt). There is occasional talk that cricketers should walk when they know they're out, but few do (Gilchrist being a noted exception)

The political take is that Howard must have known he was out, but 'batted on'.

It isn't a great cartoon (no-one cares about Howard any more) but Xmas/NY is a tough time for cartoonists, nothing's happening but sport pretty much.

I hope that enlightens you o sport-challenged one.

Hmmm, ozzian is so ambiguous. Maybe he 'knicked' the ball?

He didn't steal it, his bat just 'feathered' it and the keeper caught it.

DEPORT TONY GREIG NOW!!!!

Nah, I think it's "nicked", hinge. But I have been known to be wrong in the past!

Now you want to deport someone!

My god, the game has gone to the dogs! Shocked

I certainly hope that Ms margo, Wilso & others (who understand all this) will turn up here & give you a damn good talking to!

I've got absolutely no problem with deporting Tony Greig - best idea you've come up with in ages.

Do have me doubts about the bloody cricket, though. Symonds probably should have walked - but jeez, wasn't yesterday exciting! I only saw the last half hour or so (after agreeing to go to the first day of Sydney International tennis - spectacularly boring, and blooody hot!) Listened to the cricket, but was glad to get home to see the tail end. That Pup will be even more of an airhead, now!

Now, Olga - are you even more confused!?

And now - for dadpad:

They are all watching you Shocked

From Column 8 in today's Herald:

"On New Year's Eve, while camped at almost 1000 metres in the Victorian high country, we counted 26 satellites passing over us in the space of a few hours," reports Michael McFayden, of Tempe. "All but two of these were heading either north or south. What would this many satellites be doing over such a small section of land, and why were nearly all heading either north or south?"

""Today, I extended the declaration of natural disaster to cover the Lismore area and to cover the Richmond Valley shire area, picking up Coraki, so we can ease the burden on families and get the money flowing quickly to repair roads and bridges," he said.

The declaration of a natural disaster triggers a range of state and federal government financial assistance for residents, business owners and councils whose properties are damaged in the flooding."

Just like in New Orleans then.
