After 6 years of drought, it finally rains, and what happens? Floods, 8 deaths, hundreds evacuated-typical Australia.

Despite all the rains we're still having more water restrictions as from the 1st July. Odd Country or odd Politicians?

Acyually the pollies are getting that right. We need to rebuild water storage levels before removing restrictions. Plus we have all learned that we canuse a lot less water.

Keep restrictions and make that the norm I say.

Now (according to a "criminal expert" on the ABC this morning) quite a few bent coppers will be sweating about what he'll say if he talks!

The same day Mokbell was arrested two police cars pulled up across the road and tote away the occupants. Local gossip says they were done for trafficking amphetamines. The timing of the arrests is a dead giveaway. The next day I read in THE AGE, a resident of Bonnie Doon...
(<chants>were all going to Bonnie Doon)... was arrested as an associate of Mokbel. Since then several arrests have been made in the district, mostly related to cultivation and possession of dope.

As Bill Lawry would say "Its all happening here folks"

I've just been reading a bit of this site. Told me some things I didn't know about my own country. Quite interesting.

Ahhh... yes Jennifer Tanner found dead from a suicide with gunshot wounds to her hands. Perhaps you mean the associated transsexual in the mineshaft?

We get the prison escapees up here as well, Archie Butterfield and.... some one else were the last ones... and that women prison guard that helped them escape. The buggers burned down the Gafneys creek pub, then had a shoot out with police on the banks of the Delatite river

We had a tee shirt printed with Escape to Bonnie Doon printed on it. Kind of a play on Doon being a holiday destination.

That would be funny if you weren't so pissed off.

In 2 weeks we'll have 2 guests from Sydney....they're at present touring the country....so hooray. It's been ages since I got to meet any Aussies.

Last heard from them in London, where it's been raining on their parade.
Shame, April here was dry, sunny and warm.
Right now cool, very windy, showery.

Aussies arrive here tonight. I am told their names are not Bruce and Sheila.

Great excitement here! I've been detailed to wash the front step and buy the wine and beer.

They're here till Sunday, will do a bit of travelling about from here (York, Liverpool, Manchester) and we're having a party here on Saturday with a few other folks coming round.

Wish us luck!

(as I was typing that, Bruce phones me from Penrith! All is well, they're heading southward through the Lake District today)

An update on my story, which caused such widespread apathy.....

Our 2 Australian guests left for the south this morning. They, and we, had a nice time seeing a variety of different places in this locality. Weather was fine, warm and sunny for the most part. Our meal last night was in a Spanish restaurant, with 10 at the table, and much wine and beer was shifted. G'day.
