Hello, hello, Oz!

Cooooooeeeeeee!

Where the heck is everyone? What's happening where you are?
I miss you! Sad

It's a long weekend in Victoria ... Labour Day on Monday. (Or Moomba if you like parades.)
Same in other states? (not the Moomba part, obviously)
If so, whatcha up to on your long weekend?
Me, I have "nothing exciting" planned.
Oh well ....
What exciting things are you doing?

It seems rather quaint to be celebrating the 8 hour day as so many workers' are working far longer hours .... often at home, on their computers ... (which were supposed to make our lives easier! Wink )

... or considerably less than 8 hours a day ... as part of the country's "flexible" casualized workforce.

Anyway, just grumbling (it always cheers me up!) & saying g'day to you all! Smile

@msolga,
Hi msolga, long weekend here too! Adelaide Cup day, fancy giving everybody a day off for a horse race, just crazy as nobody goes to the races any more. I'm having a fabulous weekend as my grandchildren have just flown in from Port Lincoln to visit me. Weather is stunning, 26 degrees which makes it all the better, had no rain at all whilst you were drenched in Melbourne. My first outing is taking the kids to Burger King for their favourite meal. They brought me 2 lobsters but they don't want them, fast food is more attractive to the youngsters. Laughing

@msolga,
Labor Day, or LAbour Day for others of the ENglish speaking world, should have a new cartoon stamp. This one should show a guy on a computer and a woman on a computer and a kid on a computer with wires plugged into the stamp .
Instead of a buff appearance of a laborer, the modern at home workers will be in their tighty whities and overweight.

@farmerman,
Smile

Yes, couldn't agree more, farmer.

Let's get real here & free the chubby computer-bound workers from their burden!
Up the anti-computer, ant-mobile phone revolution, I say!

Or else actually count the extra work hours as part the job & pay accordingly!

Ah, what a dreamer I am!
Fat chance.
Pie in the sky! Wink

@msolga,
Moomba! I've been in more than one of the parades ages ago and it's a lot of fun. Once, doing a high school dance number and the other time playing some drums in a samba float. Man, I wish i wasn't working on Labour Day...

@Procrustes,
Welcome to the Oz thread, Proscrustes. Smile
You would have to be the most enthusiastic Moomba enthusiast I've ever come across! Very Happy
Why are you working on Labour Day, you poor thing?

Hello to you, too!
I didn't see you earlier! Confused

You are describing my feelings toward Melbourne Cup Day. Exactly.
But still .... a holiday is a holiday, yes? Smile

That sounds great, Dutchy.
Perfect even.
Enjoy!
There won't be too many more weekends like this before winter.

Burger King rather than lobster? Surprised
What's wrong with kids today? Wink

OK, then.
Your own choice & for an excellent purpose, Proscrustes.
Have you decided yet where this much-needed holiday destination might be?
Tell me, so's I can become insanely envious. Wink

@msolga,
msolga you forget the kids are coming from a fishing family, Lobster is par for the course but there is no Hungry Jacks where they live, to them that's something special. Smile
btw. Your beloved Magpies received a hiding here last night. Laughing
Mr. Eddy everywhere thought it wise to dump Mick Malthouse, well he be scratching his head as Nathan Buckley had no answers to the Crows brilliant play.

@Dutchy,
I've been totally overwhelmed by work, plus a major thoracic spine flareup I got from undoing a kid's toy, of all things!....and a virus that just hangs in. I've got to the coughing and snuffly stage.

Having said that, I just came from a lovely al fresco lunch in Norwood, where I had steak, of all things! I'd not have had red meat for a couple of decades prior. Itnwas a porterhouse....which means nothing to me...what part of the unfortunate beast is the porterhouse?

I must have needed iron or some damn thing. I feel bad, but it was very nice. No dinner for me!

@Dutchy,
Ah, I see now & I fully understand, Dutchy.
Rather like a friend of mine who grew up on a remote farm .... & ate rabbit stew after rabbit stew for dinner, night after night, after night .... The family was very poor then & rabbits were free food. Her dad shot them & her mum cooked em.
She can't even consider rabbit, under any circumstances, now.

Oh is that so?
I know nothing about this.
And I suppose you find that funny? Neutral

But please remember, Dutchy, my magpie hysterics occur only occur during the finals. An unfortunate throw-back to an unfortunate childhood addiction. Wink

Hoping to see my cousin in Shanghai for a couple of weeks, then a week in Amsterdam, then spend close to 2 months in Chicago with my auntie. I'm hoping to do this on budget and before my sister's wedding in December. I also hope I scrounge enough dosh together before I book tickets. Aaaaaahhhh....

Sorry to hear this.
I suppose this means you'll have to take things very easy this weekend (is it a long one for you folk in Adelaide?) to try and recover.
Just explain that to Viola & Sebastian. I'm absolutely certain they'll understand & oblige! Smile

I have no idea which part of the unfortunate beast is porterhouse, Deb.
But I do know what you mean.
I indulge in a bit of steak when I'm feeling particularly run down. Like an instant iron boost or something! Amazing.
Still, your outdoor lunch sounded delightful.
Dutchy says the weather in your part of Oz is perfect today! Smile
