He decided to leave.
I tried to talk him into coming back, but no ...

Maybe he won't be able to help himself on Saturday?

@hingehead,
You mean does he support the mighty maggies, hinge?
Not certain, but he did seem "sympathetic" last year.
Remember what a stressful experience that was? (well for me, anyway! Ha.)

I wonder if Dutchy will be watching this year?
(Hello, Dutchy, if you're reading this! Remember our little wager last year? Smile )

@msolga,
Good evening msolga. Yes I remember our little wager from last year, I'm still waiting for you to pay me! Smile

Well I wish I could pick your Magpies this year but once again I'll go for the Cats, I think they're peaking at the right time whereas your Maggies are on the way down. Sorry about that but that's what my expert eyes tell me.

Ofcourse I'll be watching come next Saturday.

ok, ok, ok I know how much you love your Maggies, so because I'm unbiased, I HOPE the Maggies win for you, now does that make you feel better? As far as paying up is concerned, I never renege on my bets, sure you got your facts right? Wink

@Dutchy,
You're such a kind, obliging person, Dutchy! Smile
But it's OK. You can barrack for the cats.
You know you really want to! Wink

Let's face it, everyone but Collingwood supporters loathes Collingwood.
Yes?
And why should you be any different to everyone else, hey?

BUT, I reserve my right to turn up here on Sunday morning and gloat about a magpie victory! Twisted Evil

I just Googled "why does everyone hate Collingwood football club?" & , not at all surprisingly, received quite a large number of responses! Wink

Anyway, here's an extract from the Wikilpedia entry, if you're interested:

Quote:
Collingwood Football Club

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/01/Collingwood_Football_Club_Logo.svg/200px-Collingwood_Football_Club_Logo.svg.png

...Collingwood is the most supported club in the AFL and one of the most supported clubs in any sport in Australia.[2][3] It has consistently attracted much higher than average crowds to its home games than other clubs in the league.[4][5] In 1970, 121,696 spectators watched Collingwood and Carlton contest the Grand Final, the record attendance for a football game of any code in Australia. Collingwood currently have the most members of any club in the AFL, with 71,516 as of July 2011.[6] The total home crowd for Collingwood in 2010 was 695,816 at an average of 63,256.[7]

Collingwood's home guernsey is black with white stripes, matching the colours of an Australian magpie.

Throughout its history, the club has developed a number of rivalries with cross-town and interstate clubs. Traditional Melbourne suburban rivalries with Essendon,[8] Richmond and Carlton[9] remain fierce. Collingwood has gained interstate rivals, particularly Port Adelaide and Brisbane, but has retained the reputation in the national competition as the "team everybody loves to hate".[10] .....

I wonder if hinge was referring to the Wallabies? Playing Russia in final pool match of Rugby World Cup on Saturday. A must win / should win match - after being beaten by Ireland.

And hinge also made a reference to the Rugby League grand final - Manly (again, the team everyone loves to hate!) vs NZ Warriors. Who to support here?

You southern staters are so provincial - this is a huge sporting weekend!

And the A League kicks off the following week.

@msolga,
I'm on holiday down the coast.

You wouldn't believe there was anything else happening sportswise if you were watching ABC TV breakfast as I was this morning!

This is supposed to be a national programme, but there was bugger all mention of any other sport than AFL. There was a quite brief reference to Casey Stoner who is riding a motor bike somewhere, but that's it.....

The show comes out of Melbourne, but does it have to be quite so provincial??

You're talking about RN breakfast, margo?
That sounds odd.
I didn't think they'd go in for rambling on about football of any sort ... I wouldn't imagine their target audience would be terribly interested.

Cold morning here. Brrrr.
What the heck happened to spring? Confused

Sitting here drinking tea & eating toast & listening to the Couldabeen Champions on local ABC radio.

Lot's of talk about the weather. Which is the better team in "the wet"?
Who knows? But we'll find out soon enough.

This'll give you some insight as to what the cats & the magpies will be contending with this afternoon:

Rain, hail forecast for AFL grand final:
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-10-01/rain-hail-forecast-for-afl-grand-final/3204818?section=vic

Great. Wink

All those backyard barbecue plans down the gurgler. A lot of very crowded lounge rooms instead. Oh well ....

I'm tossing up the choices: head over to my friend's place & watch the game on her humongous flat screen or stay here & watch it on my trusty little old box tv? I think I'll opt for the latter & do the usual thing: visuals on tv & ABC radio commentary for sound. You cut out a lot of unnecessary crap that way. Smile

Anyway, not long to go.

(go maggies!)
