Confused thinking after work on a Friday evening:
Maybe I took to the city like a fish to water? Not a duck? I mix these things up, often. I always put it down to "cultural confusion" as a child. (my migrant background)... I once declared that I needed to get out & walk (after a long car trip) to "stretch my feet"! Razz

Duck to water - yep works fine

Fish - water. I remember an old French proverb about fish swimming three times, first in the sea, secondly in a broth while it's being cooked and third, in the tum. That has nothing to do with ducks, water or sauvignon blanc but oh well, it's Friday evening Very Happy

Sauvignon blanc - one of those yummy, yummy Yara Valley wines - oops strike that, I'm from South Australia, I'm supposed to get all parochial when it comes to wine Cool

Why, thank you for making concessions for my mangled Oz sayings, gf! Most times people are too polite to say! Laughing Actually, it's amazing that I still make these mistakes after all these years ... after all, I came to Oz when I was one year old! But, like lots of migrants, I was really navigating two very different cultures at one time ... Juggle, juggle ... I truly believe it makes for amazing mental flexibility, even if what I'm trying to say does get a wee bit mangled at times ...

And as for sav. blanc: I'm so pleased that I no longer think it tastes like grass! Laughing It's really a very nice drop indeed. My wine of choice. And yes, you should promote SA blancs at every opportunity, as you patriotic duty ... Very Happy

Actually I always think sauvingon blanc has a sort of gooseberry flavour to it...well ours do. Grassy - herbaceous, yes. But the only thing I have really drunk that had grass in it was Zubrovka. Fascinating stuff Very Happy

I Dont hate the city Msolga just dont have a need for it.

ducks float on top of the environmental medium. Is that you or do prefer to think of yourself as fully immersed in your environment as the fish would be?

GF do you know of Jennifer Tanner and Adele Bailey. A few corners got cut there to get the right result but still the ghosts come back to haunt.

Some days the duck alternative seems wise, but on other days, the fish option, definitely! It really depends on how well I'm travelling at any particular time. Today is a duck day, I think! Very Happy

Yes dadpad I know of those cases. The sooner they're wrapped up and he crooks involved - whoever they are - are banged up the better.

In my comments about autre temps, autre mores I was actually referring to some of the more humorous incidents I've been involved in that - if they happened today - would probably be frowned upon. Like the time me and two of my mates drove up to Mount Willoughby in the middle of the night on the old dirt track Stuart Highway to find and lock up two car thieves....of course it was six-stubby journey back then....

I have a few of them in my little blog.

Actually my first experience with Zubrovka should make it into my blog. Off duty (for once) lounge bar Opal Inn at Coober Pedy with my mate Tadeusz who was explaining to the finer points of Polish vodkas and why they were (still are I think) superior to the Russian variety. Well I would blog it if I could remember it.

Thanks, Deb. Now I know. Very Happy
Just one more thing, though .... the bit about grass & Zubrovka. What's the story?
Anyway, bet a bottle of this brew costs an arm & a leg. So not being hugely wealthy, I might just see what's on special at Dan Murphy's.

Hey, what's this about your having a blog, gf? Tell us more!

Stolen from a QLD newspaper

Over the last 20 years a lot of laws have been introduced which oppress law-abiding citizens and attack their civil liberties in all sorts of ways. But whenever anyone protests, they are told that it is for the greater good and that our society will be better off for it. We should give up our freedoms and not selfishly insist on liberty, because society needs protection from whomever is supposed to be the target of the particular law in question, whether it be drug dealers, money launderers, tax cheats, paedophiles or terrorists.

CONSIDER, if you will, the introduction of the tax file number. This, we were told, was the economic answer to all our dreams. No longer would it be possible for drug dealers to benefit from their ill-gotten gains, money laundering would be a thing of the past ... and the black, cash economy? Gone into the pages of history books alongside the Rum Corps and bathtub gin. The minor inconvenience of everyone having to be registered and numbered would be as nothing compared to the halcyon future which awaited us all.

We swallowed it and obediently filled out forms giving all our personal particulars and accepted our numbers, although we drew the line, just, at having them tattooed conveniently on our skins.

AND what has been the result? Have we seen drug dealers and money launderers forced out of their mansions, catching the bus, begging on street corners because they can't continue their dirty dealings under the tax file number regime? We have not. We have seen battlers doing it tough because they can no longer work two jobs under our punitive tax system, but there has been absolutely no change in the black economy where cash continues to change hands unhindered.
