A TALE OF WINTER

On cold frosty nights, with clear skies, the moonlight reflects
from the crisp white surface of the winter road
and whitened, frosted spiders webs sparkle and have that
symmetry of shape, almost mystical as they vibrate in the
gentle movement of the air.
An owl hoots a warning from high up in its tree
whilst a vixen scurries under ground with carrion in her jaws.
Those kind of evenings always seem quieter in the human ear,
sounds muffled by a layer of snow but then at times
you can hear sounds from much further off.
They have a haunting, ghostly aura
Such as a sports car with it's engine speed
rising suddenly as the driver shifts down a gear,
then the squeal of rubber on frosted blacktop,
screaming for adhesion as the driver takes the sweeping bend,
but nay,
all is lost,
the surface of the icy road is nowhere to be had,
hope sinks, to fatal realisation
followed by some almighty thud, dulled in it's rendition,
as the car side swipes a sturdy redwood.
The car bouncing, spinning, toppling over, now inside out.
The crack of glass, the crunch of metal,
Exploding gas tank foreshadows a sudden funeral pyre
and from the wreckage
the Grim Reaper sweeps another soul inside his cloak.

John, I loved the haunting, peaceful beauty of your frozen forest with its snow-muted sounds.
The sudden interruption by the foreign sound of the car crash is startling and effective; especially as the crash is never witnessed, only envisioned through your description of the changing sounds of the inevitable progression of the accident.

Diane -- Joanne === Thank you both for your thoughts and your own vision of what I wrote.

It's imagination and if I can raise that in another person's mind, it's great. It is akin to listening to a radio drama, a lot of which I did as a kid.
Having spent most of my aduult like making films and videos, nowadays in my enforced retirement, I've turned to words in the hope of using my creative skills.
