I think we all have our own strengths.
Men are usually physically stronger.
Men and women have seperate areas were they excell eg, men tend to take to driving and woman tend to know how to deal with emotional issues. Both strengths, but totally different.

Im getting fed up of hearing how women are being empowered.
It seems women are trying to overtake men. What happened to women being frilly and feminine.I havnt worn a skirt since August 04.

Why were women evr thought of a secondary citizens baring in mind the amount of work they do.

Basically I think men rule the world and as long as they are scared of us the less equal we will be.

The woman my favorite creature in the whole world. She can intoxicate you more completely than the most potent drug, dazzle you like a rain of sparks, and rob your wits quicker than a carsalesman.
She is the only devil I'll ever let get me... Smile

Material girl. Bearing in mind the work they do, you say. I am not under the impression that it is the hardest working individual that is the most rewarded in our society. (The western world) This has nothing to do with gender.

Good point Cyracuz.I agree but rewards arnt a reason for doing things.
Some things just have to be done,Kids have to be looked after and money has to be earned, both can be done by either gender and with no outstanding reward.

Over here(UK)men get paid more than women for doing the same job showing serious inequality.

How is gender to be judged as to who is 'better' ?

well i believe that in order to seek any answer to the dilemma i posed you need to consider what equality is.

equality cannot mean everybody has the chance to do anything they want. as people could want to do bad things

it cannot mean all people have equal opurtunities and right.
because a man cannot have the oppurtunity to carry a child or suckle it.

men and women are two different sexes. there is a physical difference between men and women and so they have different roles and oppurtunities.

equality in this sense means to have equal oppurtunities to do what you are mentally and physically capable of doing. this means that men and women due to there different physical/mental states will have different oppurtunities but will be able to do all that they are capable of.

I was assuming that bad things wernt included in this.

By physical do you mean things like strength and the child making issues?

Fair enough men cant carry/suckle a child but women cant produce sperm and father a child either. One is a mother the other a father,so in that way I think it is balanced.

Re strength,Im sure there are some women physically stronger then men.Not an equal balance but a fair assumption.

Id have to say, geopraphy is a factor as well.
If you are born in a 3rd world country the opportunities are far less than in the western world meaning a certain male/females potential will never be realised.
Therefore unequal opportunities despite gender.

I think everybody should do(only good things)whatever they want to attempt.

I heard a phrase once-We are all equal, its just some are more equal than others.

if a woman is physically stronger than a man then she should get a privelage over him in having the oppurtunity to do things which are physically demanding and therefore require the woman not the man

Men and women are not equal. They have never been, and never will be. There are things women can do that men cannot and vice versa. This is how it should be.

Why is it that a woman that wants to be treated as a man is acceptable, while a man who wants to be treated as a woman is far less so?

A gay man is nasty. A lesbian woman is just sexy. ( The general view as well as my personal view).

Your right, men and women will never be equal in some ways which is a shame.I think a certain level of respect(bad people not included)should come as standard for everyone.

Cyracuz-A film/song said 'a boy to look like a girl is degrading, because you think that being a girl is degrading'.
Hence its ok for a woman to want to strive to be a man in gender or work because it will be seen as an achievement or an 'upgrade' but not acceptable for a man to want to be like a woman because they are weak in many ways, hence degrading.

Re your opinions to gays and lesbians Id have to disagree.I dont get that impression at all.

men and women can never be equal because men can never be women and women can never be men.
a gay man is still a man so he cannot be compared to a woman
a lesbian is still a woman and so cannot be compared to a man.

men and women cannot be equal as they are two diffrent beings physically and mentally.

why is it that a mans physical and mental state is deemed superior.
why do women strive to be men
men are men and women, women.
they are equal in that they should have the right to do what they are good at.

the undeniable difference beteen men and women give them different strengths.

The general attitude of society is pretty sad. It's the dumb stuff people are being exposed or conditioned to.

I don't like being called a girl because I'm not a girl, and the thought of going out with men disturb me.

We all need to learn to win the war over our superiority/inferiority complex.

lol. I've heard that a lot. I think it's just because men are sexually stimulated by the sight of women, that when they see two women together instead of a guy with a girl, they think it more sexier???
I kinda have this view also Embarrassed but I think I need to grow out of it.

Transexual people can (and do) become the other gender. Gender isn't a biological thing, it's a social and personal thing.

The sad thing is that due to science men are obsolete when it comes to reprocriation. (spelled right?). The thing is that scientists can now inpregnate an egg using any cell from the body. A sperm cell is no longer a necessity. So now women can have babies with women. An all girl world....................

As stated by others, there are physiological differences between men and women... therefore, there are bound to be differences... we all (especially feminists) need to embrace this, rather than scream for equality...
the issue of equlity is simply an issue that has arrisen because of gender roles that our society has put on us...(on both men and women)...
we should stop focusing on equality and focus our attention on eliminating gender roles.

Bravo!

I agree. I despise the modern-day march for equality; it seems to pointless to me. There are certain roles that a woman can fill, and certain rolls a man can. And, on the contrary, there are roles that a woman can't fill, just as there are roles that men can not. I think that's a much more equalized few than the "men are all chauvinists, women can have dicks too!" approach that seems to be the new fad. Perhaps though, it's my utter contempt towards Feminists. Rolling Eyes I think it's a groundless battle to fight for such equality when, if we were all 'equal' in the sense of intelligence, strength, endurance, parental drive, finances, politics and every other walk of life, it would be completely out of balance and - in my opinion - not 'equal' at all.

i agree with the majority of the posts

we are different having our own strengths and weaknesses as we all know whether or not we care to admit them

but what does my head is feminists who say women dont get treated fairly

now i might get a **** load back o ure a bloke u dont understand and all that lark

but men are still expected to do certain things
eg open doors or women first

other things like women get away with smacking blokes ( and i DO NOT AGREE WITH HITTING WOMEN let me make that 100% clear)

but girls hit blokes and they are expected to take it because there blokes as soon as a bloke retaliates he becomes the bad guy

i think total equality should be it or not at all

i await for the abuse to be hurlled

but i am glad that the women on here seem to of accomodated what i have said

I agree Max...

I don't think women are treated unfairly. I think that some make themselves out to be such bitches while fighting for equality, that they make their own bad rep. For that though, I have no pity. It's just a shame they ruin it for the rest of us. I.E.; I'd never hit a man in anger.
