Have just purchased this model scanner and am unable to scan slides. Have selected Professional Mode and Positive slides. It appears to go through the motions but all I end up with is a white blank. If I am correct, a back light in the lid is supposed to illuminate the slide for scanning but is not coming on. Is this correct? Want to make sure I'm not leaving something out before I return it for an exchnge.

Make sure you remove the reflective mat on the lid of the scanner and that the cord from the lid to the body of the scanner is securely plugged in. I do believe that a backlight is supposed to work for the slide scanner.
