Painting Signed Willem(s)

Hi,

I did quite some research, but couldn't manage to identify the painter. As you can see on the images, it's signed with just 'Willem' or 'Willems'. While I see some resemblances to known painters, I didn't manage to narrow it down to anything conclusive.
Why would it be someone significant? I'm not sure, but the frame is expensive and it has been relined.
Any help or clues would be highly appreciated.
