The maximum deflection at load is given by the formula:
(w) x (l)^3 / 48 (e) (i)
Where:
w = load (lbs)
l = length of beam (inches)
e = modulus of elasticity (psi)
i = moment of inertia (^4)
Therefore: (6,000) x (50x12) (50x12) (50x12) / (48) (29,000,000) (850)
= 1,296,000,000,000/1,183,200,000,000
= 1.1 inches
Since the beam bends down it is - 1.1 inches
Unfortunately when submitting my answer I put 1.1 inches and forgot the negative, thus losing the competition.
