if you go to my hometown, I'm going to tell you to go ride the Wolfe Island Ferry



it runs between Canada's first capitol and ... Wolfe Island

it runs where the Cataraqui River, Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence meet. it is just at the edge of the 1000 Islands.



you can see at least 3 Martello towers on the trip ... and Kingston City Hall, Fort Frontenac, the Royal Military College, Fort Henry and of course Wolfe Island



walk on
drive on
ride on



chat with the farmers taking hay wagons one way or the other
talk to school kids commuting

watch the poker run if you time it right



walk around the island, get ice cream, cheese, fresh fruit and veggies



drive across the island (takes 20 minutes?) and take the Cape Vincent Ferry to the US

best free entertainment in my hometown

I'll take them to the MBTA commuter train stop and tell them to take the train to Boston. There is nothing exciting or culturally interested about Ashland, MA.

I spent kindergarten in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, so I'd advise you go to nearby Valley Forge National Historical Park.

Is that near the reservoir? we went there once to drive through the park to look at the tree colours when we were on our way to Maine.

There's a reservoir in a town next over, Framingham. It's a nice area. Ashland also has a small state park. Nice for the locals but not destination worthy.

the state park was nice. I mostly remember the horrid hotel we stayed in.

I'm not sure if John Stone's Inn, renown for being allegedly haunted, was actually a place to stay overnight.

Nope. Nowhere as attractive. More generic. Not quite an Econolodge but more like one.

And with less ghosts too.

Better than my hometown. I would warn them to wear a bullet proof vest.



When that's not happening we do have a few things:

Campanelli Stadium (minor league baseball - actually believe it or not one of the few places I actually go back to see)
and a whole sleuth of dive bars
