I was wondering if somebody can help me with this thing norton can't seem to get rid of. winlspak.dll comes up everytime I run a virus scan and it will not delete it, I have also ran spybot and adaware numerous times and still its not deleted. I am assuming it is causing the 20 pop ups I get at one time throughout the day. Also my computer has been shutting down suddenly saying fatal system error not sure if this is all connected or what but I have included my highjack scan report. So much apprciated if somebody could help me out.
thanks

Hi shortty and welcome to A2K, You have a couple nasty hijacks here,

Please Download LSPFix from http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.zip and Run the Program.
Disconnect from the Internet and close all Internet Explorer Windows.
Check the "I know what I'm doing" Button and remove all traces of winlspak.dll ( Nothing else)
Then Reboot.

Next,
Download Killbox from Here

Next download Findit.zip from Here
Unzip it and double-click on Find.bat to run it. It should run for a few seconds, then open Output.txt file. Copy and paste the contents of output.txt here. Once that's done, close the text file and then press any key and the batch file will end.

Post back a fresh HJT log as well please

Copy Killbox to your Desktop (Do not run from the download site)

Settings for Killbox
From the menu bar click the "About" and ensure you have version 2.0.0.76 or better.
Select Option Replace on Reboot
With the full path to the fist file name in the topmost textbox, click the option Use Dummy which will create a numbered dummy file instantly for you.
Click the Red X ...and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click Yes
A second message will ask to Reboot now? you will need to click No (since you are not finished adding all related files in yet)

Looks good almost there

Copy the contents of the Quote Box below to Notepad.
Click File menu -> Save and name the file as fix.reg
Change the Save as Type to All Files
Save this file on the desktop.

Double-click on the fix.reg file you saved on your desktop, and when it prompts to merge say Yes, and this will clear some registry entries left behind by the process.

Restart and post back another Findit log
How is it running now ?

Looking much better,
Open killbox again please,

Go Here and download and run VX2Finder(126).exe

Click the [Restore Policy] button

*Use VX2Finder [UserAgent$] button will remove this

and the Load dll for VX2 under the Notify key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify
under this key will be a sub key holding the name of the VX2 dll file, and will need to be removed.

Under the Notify Key find the subkey ThemeManager and delete it.

Once again post back a fresh HJT log and findit log please
Also let me know if your Recycle Bin is working properly

I don't know if I am doing something wrong in this step.
I opened Killbox, downloaded VX2 and I click on restore policy and a box comes up saying "this will reset the sedebug privlage for administrators,if you already removed the VX2.betterinternet files using recovery console than it ask for me to click ok or cancel. The whole time the user agen$ button is greyed out and I cannot click it. If I click ok to the adminstrtor policy it tells me it has to reboot to fix the problem. thats as far as I've got so the rest of the post looks very foreign to me right now. sorry to be a pain

Looks clean now shortty, How is it running ?

Download the following programs, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster and SpywareGaurd
Check for updates after you install them, And check weekly as well
Keep Ad-aware and Spybot handy, Check them for updates and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.

Remeber to Check Windows for updates

Probably a good time to create a new restore point See Here Name it clean or something like that,

Let us know if you have any further problems

I think now have a problem with my recycling bin. Absolutly nothing I delete is showing up in it. I deleted some programs I didn't want anymore, I deleted pictures and absolutly nothing is in my recycling bin. Thats not normal is it?
also this morning after norton ran, the report actually showed up 3 things at risk and it deleted 2 out of the three. The one it could not delete was mm21.ocx. winlspak.dll showed up again but it was able to delete it this time.

should I be worried?

Sorry I thought I covered this for you,

Open Killbox and Copy & Paste the path to the Desktop.ini for recycle bin.
ie:
Quote:

C:\RECYCLER\Desktop.ini

Click Red X to delete it.
or
Simply Browse to the Directory under C:(root) called RECYCLER
In killbox you will see in blue also the term Directory
Click the Red X to delete it.

Reboot and let us know if the Recycle bin is working again please

*Either of these methods will fix the bug where no files are shown in recycle bin, and no option to store files into recycle bin.
