hmmm -I will need to consider this - off the top of my head, Russell Drysdale (some), Sidney Nolan, Margaret Preston, this is too hard - I cannot think of most of the people I like - and I have not even begun to think of Aboriginal artists/art groups.

here is a website:

I love Brett Whiteley's use of colour - some of his Sydney paintings are just brilliant. I can't find a good website, though - just a bitty couple:

An aboriginal artist to consider, one of the more famous, who died recently is Clifford Possum Japaltjarri

Edithdoll - I don't know David Bromley and couldn't open the website.

I love Whiteley's Sydney Harbour paintings, too, margo. Also his paintings of his studio.

He was a brilliant draughtsman. Suggested so much with a few deft strokes. I saw a brilliant series of drawings of his, years ago, which showed Francis Bacon's facial expressions as he & Whitely conducted a lengthy conversation. A huge pile of big pen & ink drawings on rice paper.

I would love to add some links of other Oz artists, edithdoll, but tonight's not the night for that - for some reason my computer is REALLY SLOW tonight - sites taking ages to download. I'll try again another time when things are better.

Oh, I like Peter Booth's paintings a lot, too.

How many of the Aussies realise that Rolf Harris is actually the most famous living artist on earth?

No, just don't have time do it myself Deb.

I posted one of his drawings on the realm. I don't know if you could still see it.

I have a favourite local artist, Irene Kindness.

I have a couple of paintings done just after a visit to see her first grandson - both are large, colourful and playful. One of of a camel - who appears to be farting; the other is of a butterfly. The colours are more simple in these - mostly bright red on yellow and blue backgrounds - like a beach.

I also have one of her Ghana series - not quite as spectacular as the one in the link - but just stunniing. I react very strongly to colour and this one is a beauty!
