My laptop is taking a good minute and fifteen seconds to load it's icons and be ready to connect to the internet. This seems to me to be an inordinately long time...or am I just being impatient?

Depends on what you have running at start up,
Couldn't hurt to run through this Post and see if it speeds up a bit, Has it always been this way or is it something that just started recently ?
