*I have no idea where this should be posted. I'd like to be informed if it is moved, though.*
No one has yet been able to tell me what anarchy is. I ask, but it's like asking someone what it means to be "goth".
First, because this always confused me, is anarchy a government in itself, or is it a lack thereof?
And if anarchy is a lack of government:
Are anarchists capitalistic or communistic? How is anarchy supposed to work? Are there any rules or laws that are punishable if broken in anarchy? (and if there are, wouldn't that make it a government?)
Thanks, sorry if this sounds inane.
Anarchism is not a romantic fable but the hardheaded realization, based on five thousand years of experience, that we cannot entrust the management of our lives to kings, priests, politicians, generals, and county commissioners. Anarchism is founded on the observation that since few men are wise enough to rule themselves, even fewer are wise enough to rule others.
I don't know, I just don't see anarchism working any better than democracy. Even lack of government will fall apart.
Everything put together, sooner or later falls apart. what we can try to do, in the meantime, is minimize the harm done to each and every one of us. It's an ideal to strive for.
To learn more about the seminal thinkers in the history of anarchism, you can start

And, I'll also note, I believe that I am one of only two members here who currently has an anarchist's portrait as an avatar.
lol Joe, you forgot mine!

As I noted, there are two members here whose avatars are the portraits of anarchists:

Living with an anarchist is quite an experience, usually fantastic.
