@Abducens,
I disagree with the idea that man-made fibers should replace silk. There are three reasons that support my opinion. First of all, synthetic fibers do not provide breathable and comfortable fabrics like silk does. Silk fabric allows your skin to breathe, and since it cools and warms simultaneously, it can be worn in both warm and cold weather.
Secondly, silk fiber is the most hypoallergenic when compared to other natural fibers and all synthetic materials. According to a number of studies, silk is composed of amino acids which are harmless to the skin, while man-made fibers like polyester and nylon are made from petroleum or coal which can cause skin irritation.
And lastly, unlike synthetic fibers, silk is environmentally friendly, as it requires no crude oil or its derivative products during production. Thus, it helps preserve non-renewable natural resources. In conclusion, man-made fibers should not replace silk.
