land ownership

My husband has lived on this 3/4 acre with garage since birth-his brother is the only one that had the money to buy it when his father got killed 30+ years ago so his mother would not have to sell it. He lets her live in the farm house but doesn't fix anything or come out. His sister was aloud to buy acearage in the back years ago when her ex-husband gave her the money to purchase it. We have asked numerous times to buy this piece of land. as nothing else is affordable, but he just has excuses. We have a single wide that we have refurbished on it and have also sided the garage. My husband put in the septic, electric, and when the well pump quit we had to all pitch in for county water. Is there anything thing we can do to get legal posession of this piece of property. Last year his mother ran into money problems and now they are charging us lot rent instead of selling us the property.

Not likely. Since both you and he are aware of your presence on the land and that it is a temporary arrangement (and now you are paying rent) you can't claim squatter's rights.

You can't force someone to sell you their land if they don't want to.
