The Rose on the Moon and other Lollipop Stories
When you were young, you did as you pleased
Even thinking the moon was made of green cheese.
When you were 21, you ran with the sun.
All around you shared in your impromptu fun.
Reflections are meant only for the tender soul
But the hard of heart also have their heavy toll.
Accountability arrived with all its ills
Hard to swallow, is it not, this bitter pill?
We can't see God, so where do we turn?
What is there to life but that which we learn?
To help us escape from all life's woes,
Wishing on stars above, and on earth, a single rose.
Wishing for childhood's return to be
A fact of life, for you and me.
Making animals from puffy clouds
A soft summer breeze, soft and mild.
So just for fun and not reality
Let's put that rose on the moon and see
What becomes of that rose on the moon
And passing of life, that rushes too soon.
You are that rose. The moon? Your island.
Back - way back - to where it all began.
The rose is real, that is a reality
Ever free - but the cost? Ever lonely.
The moon is real too, of that - no doubt
But just as the moon, others are left out.
So a single rose on the moon of our desire
Makes us nothing more than, to ourselves, a liar.
Courage for each coming day, is the tool we need
To fend off troubles - If we so heed
The rose, as you are, a symbol of life,
Ever changing, rearranging its petals of strife.
Care and nourish that delicate rose,
The moon will appear another night
For you are more loved than you think
By the creator of both - AND YOU - and it is right.
Every cloud has adversity, so I have been taught,
Obscuring the moon and stars beyond
But there too, is the silver lining, bringing tears to naught.
Your adverse cloud waters the rose of you
Regardless of desire to plant it on the moon
To escape and be free - the treasure of the few
"Hurry sundown, for it can't be too soon."
But, my friend, don't you see -
You are MEANT to see the silver lining
And NOT your desires to be set free?
So cease your whining.
Only your faith to persevere, that of keeping the view
Of the silver lining can bring what you are not aware of -
Horizons anew
And a gift of eternal love.
Given from the creator who dwells above
This time - YOUR time - is but a loan
Free to seek and choose the Love that begat Love -
For it is written, "Your life is not your own"
Some day, and it will be in the time of God's making,
You WILL plant that rose not only on the moon,
But on the stars beyond - yours for the taking.
Shun not, the adversity of clouds - Your rose -
Your love - will be redeemed soon.
