One of the most terrible aspects of war is the long lasting trauma of children. The world would do itself a favour if it stopped to look at these children- the worlds future - and what we are doing to them and the generation that follows them.
Nothing is more humbling to many a soldier than to see a child or a group of children trying to find way to still be children in a war zone.
A little girl explaining to her favourite toy the distruction of her home or a little boy in a football shirt kicking a can along a bloody street with the grace and focus of pele...

The above cartoon you posted, symbolises the deep desire in us all to be free to live our lives in peace and to have times when we are able to relax and kick a ball about without the fear of bombs or military strikes.

I wanted you to know that the above cartoon affected me (and others who I pointed it out to) very deeply.
You have a bit of a fan club this end.
And we all take our hats off to you.

Endy

Thank you, Endy. (May I call you that? I feel I'm getting to know you (& your thoughts & feelings about this planet & what's happening in it...) almost well enough to. Very Happy )

Could I say that not all contributions to this thread have to be cartoons. Words (like yours, Endy) are more than welcome. Whatever helps us make sense of it all!

This is from my favourite cartoon:
http://moodle.tokem.fi/file.php/1/nemi.gif
Translation (from Norwegian):
"It is pure coincidence that we attack countries that have a lot of oil"
"The news drives me CRAZY!"
"I thought you liked fiction"

I will take it down again in a couple of days. Sorry, if it doesn't show anymore.

Can I....post a poem? Confused

Quote:
An Irish Airman Forsees His Death

I KNOW that I shall meet my fate
Somewhere among the clouds above;
Those that I fight I do not hate,
Those that I guard I do not love;
My county is Kiltartan Cross,
My countrymen Kiltartan's poor,
No likely end could bring them loss
Or leave them happier than before.
Nor law, nor duty bade me fight,
Nor public men, nor cheering crowds,
A lonely impulse of delight
Drove to this tumult in the clouds;
I balanced all, brought all to mind,
The years to come seemed waste of breath,
A waste of breath the years behind
In balance with this life, this death.

William Butler Yeats

ehh.. it's the peom I am just reading a getting puzzled and soon getting rid of the puzzle with the aid of Dlowan...Nothing to do with cartoons really...but maybe match with the title of this thread...

Perfectly matches the title of this thread, J-B!

I like to check in here first thing
It's like a busy political-art gallery, or something
Where you know you're going to bump into like-minded people

Just wish there was coffee
Very Happy

I'll go hunt for (coffee) something to contribute now
- see you later

Msolga - thanks for 'getting to know me' - and please, feel free
to visit the old Death Diary - or the Revolution thread, any time.

We are none of us alone here
Our longing for justice has united us

Endy

Yeah, I wondered too.

My guess is its taken from a WWII poster - and at the time might have represented three of the allied nations (Britain France USA).

All red white and blue flags.

I'm probably wrong.

My guess is

Egalité Fraternité Liberté

as that of France, which may be meant to match the sarcasm of that poster.

Oh, I don't need to be asked to visit your threads, Endy. Just now read your last two Death Diary poems. I don't want this to sound like a mutual admiration society or something ( Laughing ) but you certainly have a way with words! I am mightily impressed & often very moved by your work. (It's hard to know how to respond to a knock-out poem though. "Great!" or "I really like that." doesn't really hit the mark! A person could come across very trite.)
Just curious: you've been "officially" published? I'd be very surprised if you haven't. And if you haven't yet, you should get moving immediately! You really should!)

"Bomb them", indeed! That's about about the level of sophistication of "the plan"!

Unfortunately, Endy, this was the only cartoon you sent that I could see. Mind you, the problem could be my (antiquated) computer, or my settings.

strange how you can't see them all Msolga...?

Here's the link: http://www.quickrob.com/political/cartoons.html

The thing about visiting the poetry threads -
I really didn't mean for my encouragement (although its always nice) I meant - if you wanted to contribute your own stuff/thoughts/poems - as Herema has and Angelique used to.

I'm not too good at taking compliments and tend to ignore them - so don't feel you have to say anything more about the poems (you already did, a few weeks ago and I value that post highly)

I hope you get to see the political posters, some are a bit OTT - but they show a real spirit and creativity.

"Josh Wolf is an independent journalist and blogger. For refusing to testify and turn over unpublished material to a Federal Grand Jury investigating a July, 2005, anti-G8 demonstration Josh was held in contempt of court and jailed on August 1st. He is presently in federal prison.

Judge Alsop: "I sentence you to 18 months in jail!"

Josh: "On which grounds?"

Judge Alsop:"I don't have to reveal you my sources"

Thanks for that link, Endy.: Yes! Very Happy

It's not that I want to be encouraging of your (& others) poetry, it's more that sometimes I'd like to say something appreciative like: "Wow, that really hit the spot!" or "That affected me so much that it made me cry, I'm so moved." or "You just stopped me in my tracks when I read your words." or "Yes, yes, yes! That's exactly how it is!" ... all of which sound incredibly daggy. So often I'll think these things & say nothing. I wouldn't be at all surprised if some other folk feel the same way, too. Now, if I could write wonderful poems, I'd most definitely post them, but, sadly, a poet I'm not ....... Sad
