Note: I see no instructions regarding rounding.

If the first New Year's Eve fell on 31 December 1999, then 31 December 2007 gives t = 8 (since 31 December 2000 would have been t = 1). Plugging this into the algorithm above, one should obtain a value of 160.81398577... kilograms.

Rounded in the standard (mathematical) manner, one would obtain an answer of "161 kg". I do not know whether the units (namely, "kilograms") should be included within the submitted solution.

Please check my work.

Actually, it says to round to the nearest whole number, so 161 is fine.

"how many kilogrammes did the tree's trunk weigh this past New Year's Eve? Please round to the nearest whole number."

Ah. Since this information was not included in the posts (here) of this puzzle, non-Neopians of course had no way of knowing this. Rolling Eyes

Also, earlier posts by Neopians indicated that this information was not included. It would appear, then, that Neopets has revised its original posting. Shocked

Thank you for providing this thread with notification of the change over at Neopets.

Eliz.

A Wocky named Timmy was wandering down a forest path outside Meridell when he came across the Monoceraptor. The Monoceraptor threatened Timmy with his giant sharp teeth. Timmy pleaded with the Monoceraptor not to eat him, and the Monoceraptor decided instead to give Timmy a riddle. If Timmy solved the riddle, the Monoceraptor would let him go.

"I have a large family," the Monoceraptor began. "My mum and dad, my sisters and brothers, my cousins and aunts and uncles, my nephews and nieces."

"D-do you really have all those relatives?" Timmy squeaked.

"No, not really," said the Monoceraptor, "but for the purposes of this riddle let's assume that I do. Now, my parents each have three sisters, and all eight of them are married. Each of the siblings have a number of children equal to the number of siblings they have, not including themselves, minus the numerical value of their own birth order, plus two. Each of the eight siblings' children each has as many children as their own number of siblings, including themselves, plus the numerical value if their own birth order, minus one.

"If I have eighteen nieces and nephews, which of my living female blood relatives themselves has the most living descendants?"

What answer should Timmy give in order to avoid being devoured by the Monoceraptor?

This is really confusing! Would the answer not be "grandmother" ? is the answer "your grandmother" ? how do we answer this?

My first time with this conundrum!

I'm confused though: How would you name which aunt?

(No mention of a grandmother, so I'm guessing those were just examples)

maybe they all have an equal amount so we're meant to say "none" ?

I doubt it... one thing's got me though.

My parents each have three sisters. No blood uncles?

And it also says ALL EIGHT

so...

Mom, Dad, 6 aunts? Would that be the eight?

I put "mother".

My reasoning is this: First, there is NO mention of a grandmother.

Now, the first line says: "my parents each have three sisters, and all EIGHT of them are married". But if his mother has three sisters and his father has three sisters, that's only SIX... unless you count THE MOTHER AND FATHER. Now, the entire riddle goes on to say that EACH of the siblings have all these children, which means that the FATHER is included. But since he is incapable of bearing children, the MOTHER must be having them. Which means that each addition is doubled by the inclusion of the father.

I agree with this because unless you include the mom and dad it's only 6 and if you include just the mom it's only 7. By the by when did it come out?

There are 7 female relatives. monocie's mother, and her 3 sisters, and his dad's 3 sisters.

It came out about 6:20 NST
