yes, but the question tells you to round your answer to the nearest 1000...so 40 would be wrong regardless of the math.
40 would wrong
If you read the question, they say please round to the nearest 1000. So 40 would be an incorrect answer.
Well, I tried. And frankly I don't see you guys coming up with anything!?!?!
Ok maybe this will help:
"11805 people guessed the correct answer earning themselves 170 NP each."
I took the 170 and multiplied it by the 11805. Which equal to 2,006,850.
Since only 2,000,000 can split between the people with the correct answer, then maybe it's the 6,850 rounded up to 7,000???
170 * 11805 = 2006850
= 7000???
Any ideas on this??

Finding errors in one solution does not create an obligation to develop another solution. And since many Neopians seem to just mindlessly copy whatever solutions get posted, one might even view the correction of errors as a needful service.
Just my opinion, of course; I could be wrong....

but isn't it how many people got it WRONG and not how many people couldn't get np for answering the question or w/e...?
Actually, while it may not look like we have been doing anything, we were checking source code for the news and LC page to see if there were any special hints in there...and the only one that we could find was the italicizing of the word Incorectly...yes, we know, that was obvious before...but it gave us an idea, since last weeks was a "guess a single word" for mat, we were thinking that maybe what they ment was something like, "how many guessed the word incorrectly" in which case, the closest 1000 would probably be zero.
What do you think of that?
For one, I did not mindlessly copy anyones idea. I always come here for solutions. But I do value everyones opinion, whether it is good or bad. It just seems like I was the only one trying and it felt like they were not encouraging enough to care. Or something like that. Sorry if my wording is confusing, I usually am confusing to most people.

well it does make sense but i know about three people who answered it wrong...there should be a way to solve this using the information we already have...check out the prize maybe the guess the card game like the time the prize was a purple kiko gnome and the answer was purple?

Its possible, we guessed 0...logging off.
Just something odd..
Name : Guess the Card Game Table
Weight : 80 lbs.
Rarity : 91
Cost (approx) : 4000 NP
notice the price is rounded to the thousands?
I don't understand how the closest 1000 could possibly be zero?
Where did you get that from?
it's HIGHLY impossible that nobody got it wrong...
well I guess 4000 anyways =)
The only reason why I still say 40, is because.
I took the 2,000,000 that gets split between everyone that got it correct and divided by the 170 that everyone got, which gave me total number of how many people got it correct compared to the neopoint value. 11764.70.......... Rounded up to 11765. I then took that number and subtracted it from number they posted as how many got it correct. 11805
So I figured that whatever was in between the 11765 and the 11805 is what made up the total number of people that got it incorrectly.
And that's why I still think it may be 40.
I'll have to wait to find out next week. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. There will always be more Lenny Conundrums.
If all that is known about point distribution is that 2,000,000 points are divided equally among the correct responders, then there is no way to calculate how many incorrect responses there were.
Even if there were 40 incorrect responses, 40 is an incorrect response to this conundrum (round to nearest 1000).
based on the info that neo only accepts 100,000 plays of LC.... I subtracted the number of winners from 100,000 and got 88,195 rounding to the nearest 1000 would be 88,000. I have no idea if 100,000 people actually played LC or not... but it looks like it is by guess or by golly this week.
I like bullzeye's answer, it seems the most logical. And if there is a clue in the prize, I'm thinking that the operative word is "guess," since no one seems to be sure of a good way to go about solving this one.
Second: 88,000
so is the answer 40, 88,000 or 4,000
