Remember Mel Brooks' "Dead And Loving It"?
It wasn't one of his best, but Nielsen and Brooks doing the "Last Word" schtick gave me a chuckle...

OBill's right. With us going at France full tilt for a month--the US will still hold the A2K record for crappy stuff said about a country.

Ignoring them would probably tick them off the most. (Not you, Francis)

I may try that. (Not you, Francis)

Then again, I might keep trying to find that French-bashing SNL skit of a couple years ago (I KNOW it was online at one time)...and post it here. (Was too, too funny and will be my New Year's gift to Tico, Lash and O'Bill & McG...almost forgot McG! LOL)

Smile

You're cool, Francis. Just ignore us fools. Smile

You guys are fine!

But you must know that there are many, many like me in France!

And I think if you knew them, you would like them!

I think, you are doing really a good job in cleaning this site from foreigners.

And of course - since this thread is presented in search-engines - you are promoting the good picture, foreigners have of US-Americans.

Google

Carry on with your good deeds!

Of course we do, but it's much more fun to pretend we don't, for humor's sake.

Laughing You do a mighty fine job of promoting the good picture of US-Americans yourself, Walter. There must be 50 US-bashing posts for every France-bashing post (by US posters), but you go ahead and keep looking down your nose at us.

I'm sure you're equally upset that A2K will demoralize our service personnel. I can feel the outrage.

I would be much more concerned about A2K being associated with THAT sentiment, than a few French jokes that absolutely PERMEATE the web.

EDITED / corrected because the numbers got all f***ed up the first time round (my apologies)

Today's The Guardian (hoo - stop - wait, dont stop reading yet) had this graph they lifted from Reuters (there, see?) about "Who is giving what?". Figures as of Jan 1. In millions of GBP.

Since I'm a fool, I went and calculated what it would be, a) in USD and b) per capita (per individual American, Frenchman, etc). Came up with this:

Code: Aid/GBP(mill) Aid/USD(mill) Populat(mill) Aid/capita

Japan 260,51 500,18 127,65 3,92

Australia 24,22 46,50 19,73 2,36

USA 182,36 350,13 294,04 1,19

China 31,48 60,44 1289,16 0,05

Denmark 28,59 54,89 5,36 10,23 +share EU
Sweden 41,68 80,03 8,88 9,02 +share EU
Netherlands 17,71 34,00 16,15 2,11 +share EU
Spain 35,44 68,04 41,06 1,66 +share EU
UK 50,00 96,00 58,79 1,63 +share EU
France 29,27 56,20 60,14 0,93 +share EU
EU 21,26 40,82

World Bank 130,26 250,10 n/a

I'm a bit confused about the French population: 60,424,213 vs. 29,270,000 (as you noted)

Is that straight aid from the govts? Or does it count private donations, as well?

Quote:
Powell Arrives in Thailand, Says US Tsunami Donation Adequate
By VOA News
3 January 2005

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell says he does not expect an increase in U.S. aid for tsunami-devastated southern Asia, as he begins a tour of the region to assess the disaster.

Mr. Powell and a U.S. team that includes President Bush's brother, Florida Governor Jeb Bush, arrived in Bangkok Monday. They will meet with Thai officials and tour damaged areas of the country before heading later this week to Indonesia and possibly Sri Lanka.

Secretary Powell told reporters today the U.S. aid donation of $350 million is adequate at this point. The United States has faced criticism it was slow to respond to the disaster.

So far the international community has pledged $2 billion for disaster relief.

You'll get much better results if, instead of framing your Google search as "I want the US to lost the war in Iraq," you submit "I want the US to lose the war in Iraq." The latter query yields a result with A2K at the top of the list.

Also, I'd be grateful if you'd let me know how many service personnel have been demoralized by that thread.
