People wanting Trump removed may not be considering that Pence is watching and learning. He knows by now what Trump can get away with. He is smarter and can put it to use without getting impeached. He just could do more harm than even Trump.
Pence may be less likely to get impeached, but he lacks Trump's charisma, and is thus more likely to get voted out of office.
He lacks Trump's ability to sell himself as a "man of the people" to the populist base, while serving up a **** sandwich to the lower classes.
If he were President, people would focus on his unpopular policies, and he wouldn't be able to drown out the criticism with loud noises like Trump can.
The supposed "populist" mantra of the administration is "caring for the country" (aka, patriotism) as the media has portrayed it, in my opinion. However, I think the actual populist feeling has an element of "feeling gratitude for being an American," as a very emotionally charged statement, in my opinion again, since that would be adversarial against those that feel anathema to the emotion of gratitude, for historical and current reasons, so I believe the media couches it under the platitude of "caring for the country" (aka, patriotism). "Populist is also a euphemism for what was once called "mainstream," and now refers to those that are from a background/demographic that can't feel totally comfortable with the great diversity in the 21st century.
The truth is, in my opinion, while the early bird does catch the worm, those that find something to contribute can live more comfortably in the U.S. than most other countries in the world, regardless of one's demographic. Hence, the need for gratitude.
