about spyware programs

Reply Thu 23 Dec, 2004 11:16 am
Just wanted to ask someone---Do I really need to have all these programs on my computer at the same time ? Here's what I have---
Adaware, Spybot S&D, Spyware Guard, Spyware Blaster, Hijackthis.
Just seems like an awful lot at the same time.

Also Adware has come up with this----C:\winnt\system32\adaamon.dll

It won't let me remove it and I just wondered what it was for. I am all the sudden getting pages popping up again and I have all my pop up blockers on and running. Getting really annoying again. Thanks for any help.

Thanks Don77 and Merry Christmas to you too.
So far I have done all the way up to the Rebooting in Safe mode. There I am stuck. I can't seem to find the folders that were suggested. I know I am stupid on these things. I am always unsure what to do when it's in that mode. Alittle scary. So tell me how do I find them and do what is asked once I have it in the Safe Mode.

OK here it is. Only problem is----I figured out how to do what you said in SAFE mode and now I am not sure what I have done, if anything wrong. I got all the way to the BitDefender Scan.

Looks cleaner, does it seem to be running better ?
You can fix this with HJT
Please restart HJT put a check next to the following, close all open windows and click "Fix Checked"
R3 - URLSearchHook: Advanced Searchbar - {43F02779-6D88-4958-8AD3-83C12D86ADC7} - C:\Program Files\Advanced Searchbar\toolbar.dll (file missing)

Next reboot to safe mode ( By tapping the F8 key on start up) Make sure you can view all Hidden Files/Folders search for and delete the above files highlighted in BOLD
C:\Program Files\Advanced Searchbar\toolbar.dll << Delete Folder
Restart your computer, Post back a fresh log please

Well your log looks clean now, How is your computer running ?

I see you have spywaregaurd running.
But I will leave you with this just the same,

Download the following programs, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster and SpywareGaurd

Well thanks so much Don77 for helping me so much and especially at this time of year. I did go back and rehide those files and folders back to the way it was. And yes so far no more popups. Yes I have Blaster and Guard. I don't have to wipe my tracks or cookies or temp files since All-in-One SecretMaker does it for me. I really love that one. It does quite alot in helping in that respect.
Just one last request to you, will read my other 2 post of mine under the computer section to see if you can answer those questions? Thanks again and have a Merry Christmas !!!!!
